oh, and this doesnt' seem like it has much logic in it. there is no lcd display or anything llike that. just a bunch of micro switches and that joystick. i'll try to post pictures
Hey everyone,
i just purchased a AVH-P7500DVD detatchable faceplate that i was planning on hacking up but my roommate posed a question that i got me thinking: can you interface the faceplate to control a computer? Has anyone done this? or could someone point me in the direction to research this better? My roomates both have cs degrees so they could help me with the programming part. Anyone care to brainstorm a project like this? It would be a great way to control our pcs since it has a rotary nob and a joystick built into the board.

Well, if its a bunch of micro switches then do what I did. Take a multimeter and keep pressing buttons until you find the right combo. It takes a while, but I got all the things I needed
Check out my worklog (link in sig).
it's a bunch of micro switches but i dont believe that it has a corresponding lead for each of the switches. There are 8 contact points on the back of the panel so there is some logic involved, just not much. :-(

Well, there were 20 contact points on my panel. But it had an LCD. Look at the diagrams I posted up, maybe it wil give you some inspirationOriginally Posted by scott_fx
On my LCD some switches shared multiple contact points. It confused me and my grandpa for a while until we figured that that's what Lexus decided to do![]()
chill out! i did look at your diagrams!ok? wait...this is the wrong post

i just found some 8 way rotary alps encoders that i think i'm going to use instead. this will give me even greater use of the joystick on the right of that faceplate becuase i can wire it up to my amp for bass level control as well as still use it at a 8-way joystick. for the buttons I am just going to attatch them to some mini momentary switches and be done with it.
