So, why hasn't MP3 car started selling these? I think they need to drop the HQCT thing, and just start selling these babies.

no but its better than nothing until hqct comes out.

And I'm constantly amazed at how people slag off hardwares sound quality, then listen to mp3's !

true, but you must mean the hd tuner... hqct is already out...

mp3's can have very good quality if recorded at good bitrates. almost all my mp3s are at least 256kbps VBR, alot are 320. even with $120 headphones, i cannot for the life of me tell the difference between the mp3 or the original cd. so IF there is much of a reduction in audible sound, i can't tell the difference.

128kbps, however, i can see (hear?) what you mean... there's a difference there. but 90% of the people out there don't know what we're talking about let alone are able to tell the difference... esp with all the poppy crap out there that they are most likely listening to.

I guess when I think FM radio, I don't really think "sound quality". Hell, I don't associate the word "quality" with radio, since 99% of it is worthless bullcrap. One of the primary reasons in my mind for a carputer is that it gives you more options so you don't have to listen to radio.

I want to keep radio functions because my wife listens to radio, and for those rare occasions when I might need it to listen for severe weather warnings or something... I don't feel that $150 for a radio tuner is reasonable at all. Especially when you can buy an XM or Serius reciever for about a third of that. Maybe they shouldn't ditch it, since some people apparently are willing to justify that cost, but they should at the very least start carrying this more sensible option.

Of course, it's against forum rules to organize a group buy for these things...

    Sweet!

After stumbling across the fact that my car had a powered antenna that I had unknowingly disconnected and reconnecting it (thanks Lithoss!!!) I can now say that my carpc has fm radio. The sound is great! I took it for a bit of drive and the reception was constant and clear. I haven't been for a huge drive yet out into the sticks to see what it's like, but I'm still impressed. I get RDS too
I installed my carpc into my pet Kangaroo, mate.
