CND,
Have you sucessfully extended your faceplate via CAT 5 or other cables yet? If so and if it's working please post the brand and model number of your HU.
I'm currently installing my 2nd carputer, this time going for a stealth approach. I've removed the factory headunit to take advantage of a large cavity in the dash. I'm building a nice padded shelf in there to hide the LCD when not in use. The LCD mounts closer to the floor on a post. The original plan was to rewire some of the factory buttons to power down the PC, amplifier, etc while using faceplate as a cover for the LCD storage area. However, after reading about FM PCI recievers, and how crappy the sound and software is, I'm going to keep using the (relocated) factory HU.
Has anyone tried using a relocated faceplate for more than one function? I plan on using a function selection switch to route the outputs the the correct unit i.e. HU power turns on radio or PC.
Worklog and website are in the works.

I was thinking of doing something similar, running the faceplate as a controller for just my computer, to control the hu i think you would need to have all the buttons wired to the pc and then have selected ones output to the hu fromt he pc otherwise you will click one button the plate and then something will happen with both ur hu and pc simultaneously instead of the button affecting only the desired unit.
Does anyone know of some easy software that can be used to capture events from a button click if u hard wired it via usb or serial?
