I say at least give one to Gunio, David, and Frodo(if hes still around) first before people start to order them.....cause like antimatter said without the software whats the point in these radios????

then worry about the pricing and whatnot after...and who knows how long it would take to intergrate this into the popular frontends

Ummm.. Not everyone is dependent on those people for their radio support. Not everyone uses the "big three" frontends. It isn't fair to reserve the first batch for these people and make others wait. It should be completely open; First come, first serve.

i agree first come first serve..and of course "not everyone" uses the "top three" frontends....but from a bussiness point of view it would make no sense for them not to hookup the developers of the"big three" frontends......there are ALOT of peeps inthis community that use those top frontends and i can bet on it that without the support, people would not buy these radios including myself......

the bottom line is that if they want to get alot of sales they should make the investment and give the top frontend guys the hadware first so they can start to do there thing.....

Raciemer is all about business soo why would give give away something to a developer that wouldn't gain him anythign in return.

i'd give guino first dibs, just because his app is open source, and widely used. Anybody on here with a good rep (and ability to program well) should get the first dibs. Open source on something like this is key.

That sounds a bit hars I must say. You're here making statements about large profit margins while a few posts earlier you ask about a price???

Do you know racemier personally? Well I do, and the only thing that's going to happen with the first batch is get some money back that was invested in the project, no one is getting rich.
You react as if there already was an official statement that no radios will be donated. Well, the world isn't this forum alone you know. I personally have been in contact with 2 developpers on here and I promised to send them a radio. If I receive other requests, I will investigate them.

You, as someone involved in the first project, should know that this isn't just a quick and cheap undertaking. A lot of time and certainly a lot of money went into this. Why else is nobody offering something yet?

The price isn't mentioned yet, as the first production unit still needs to be tested, and if something goes wrong and other investments will be needed, this will affect pricing. If we needed to give a price right now, we couldn't get as low as we'd like to.

Serioulsy you have the freeking assembled boards in your hand. I wont buy one unless software support (front end).

It shouldn't be up to us to chip in and pay for the developers to have one because once they support it more people will buy and at your large profit margin it should be considered chump change

Reason for not having a firm price is that it can only be calculated when all the invoices of parts, assembly and PCB's are in (as from yesterday). I think that is very logical unless you like us to guess a bit around.

I wonder on what you put your findings to be able to say "large" profit, taken in account what I wrote a little bit higher.

If it was for the profit I would have spend my hours into something else instead of this project

I didn't see you investing several thousands of dollars on material, production etc, not taken everybodies time in account who are involved in this (which you wouldn't cover at all with this money).
If I did it for the money I would be selfish. And if I was selfish I would have made only 1 or 2 samples and kept them for myself or friends instead of making it possible for the community to obtain these long expected radio's and solve the problem of not having a decent radio for all those enthusiastic car PC people!!

And about the sw, there is source code available from Diogenes, maybe not nice in a graphical way but it works and that was the main idea. Ofcourse we would like to see it more graphical but also in our lives we have 24 hours and 7 days a week.

There is nothing wrong with Donald’s duck uncle. We want a product and a service so we must be prepared to pay for it. You do not own us nothing.

Someone suggested that future buyers could or should pay for the developer’s boards. Antimatter just felt that that should be done by you and that you would recover that investment together with all others that you already did, when you sold the boards.

I and a lot of other potential buyers will only buy the radio if it is integrated with our favourite frontend.

We are all just too impatient to have this ready, you and the rest of the developers and us, the buyers

We just have to calm down a bit, take a cold shower or something

Look guys, this is not the time to throw dirt or start unnecessary arguments. Things are finally within reach thanks to a lot of effort and investments from a few people that are doing this mostly for the sports of it and not for the money, surely all of you guys most know that. I don't think that any of them is aiming to be the next Bill Gates with the sales of this product.

You have to realise that this product is for a very small public only. So please be patiened for just a little while, the first thread on this forum on the subject, started by rando, was in January 2005 so its more then a year now. What difference would make another few weeks or a month maybe? A wanna thank the guys for there effort and for making a really working solution that will become available for all of us and not just for a few hardware geniuses. I'll wait and I know now that my patience will be rewarded.
