Using the default values from the PDF-file that Diogenes posted sorted the bass problems.
Strange though that the ones in the sample program wasn't the same.

There is definitively a problem of initialisation of the device.
Sometimes it is not recognised after hibernation of after a reboot. It is not related to a bad cable, now I have a good one (soldered everywhere).

You have then an unknow peripherical and you can't do anything with it anymore (except cutting power of the module or restart several times).
We need to find a workaround for that, it is not OK like that. I don't know if a software solution can be found because it is more system related.

I haven't had any problems at all with resuming after hibernate. Also if I unplug the USB whilst the radio (and program) are running, then plug it in again, it all works a treat.

It does seem quite bassy, but not too much. One thing I have noticed though is sometimes I only get output from one speaker. If I adjust the HQCT volume up or down one or two notches, it crackles and pops and then outputs to both speakers again.

As far as reception, I am using the same factory cable that used to plug directly into the HU, HQCT is about 30cm away from where the HU used to be. Without moving the HQCT, I can improve reception 50% by using a whip antenna.

Still not sure what relationship the "level" number has with signal. Some stations sound fine with a level of 90-100, and some are unlisteneable when the level shows 110-120.

The signal is not always related to the soundquality. What is important is the Signal / Noise ratio. If the station is at 90 and the noise at 70, you'll get 160 but very bad sound. Don't know if the s/n ratio can be measured though...

Signal strength issues: Anyone try an amplifier yet?

I have yet to try out my receiver, but after reading several posts, I am fully expecting to have signal quality (low strength) issues.

    - Has anyone tried placing a signal amplifier between the antenna and this unit?

I know that some poorly designed amplifiers can cause more problems than they solve, but I will certainly consider using one if I find the reception unacceptable.

On some systems, some USB devices have significant issues after hibernation and/or standby. There are some work arounds. If you can searxh the forum for USB and hibernate, I bet you will find a solution. This is NOT necessarily a problem with the HQ, but an issue with your system and with Windows.

It is not only a problem of hibernation that you may solve using devcon.
It occurs when starting the pc and can't be resolved by repluging the device (so devcon won't help). The only solution it to restart the device. It's seems to be an initialisation problem.
As you may read in previous posts, it is not only related to Windows. So there is only 1 workaround today: - put a switch on the module to restart it.
This is a real issue and the sellers should try to find a solution before producing the next batch...

    Bad news everyone!

Today I magically corrupted the filesystem on my car-puter. The source code for the kernel module and C api have been lost. Fortunately they are still in my head and should only take a few hours to re-write.

The biggest issue is the time needed to deploy a new gentoo system. So, things may be released a few days later then I expected.

EDIT: I wired the radio up to my real computer while I recompile Linux onto my car-puter. It's been several hours (and several beers) later, but I have the kernel driver to the point it was earlier. In fact, I spotted a few problems and it is even better. I'd say a test version will be available on Saturday.

Do I have anyone willing to test it out?

Well this radio sounds good but every time I reboot, hibernate or shutdown it comes up with unknown device in the hardware manager and the only way I have found to get it going again is to unplug the power from the board and repower up.

The only thing I can think that would cause this on my pc is the power is getting to the board from the power supply before the usb port.

So could I take the 5v power from the usp and switch it with 5v from the power supply?

The only other solution I can think of is a time delay relay on the power supply cable

Or a 5v relay controlled from the usb port to turn on the power from the power supply

    Edit
Well the 5 volt relay fixed mine 100%

So my theory about the power from the power supply getting to the board before the usb power must be right
