I think your pc is not seeing the module, double check your USB cable/connection.Originally Posted by waltersaegir
I've got the cables and connected the radio to my test pc.
I get sound: some faint radio and mostly buzzing.
The software runs: doesn't complain, no error mkessages, displays a screen and seems to do little else.
The Device Manager shows "other devices" then "USB Device" with yellow question markes next to both.
This is the same for WindowsXP and Vista Beta2.
The computer's USB works for several other devices.
I *seem* to be missing a driver.
I went to the Source Forge link as suggested might be helpful on this list and I downloaded and installed LibUsb-Win32 and generated a inf file with the parameters from Diogenes update (VID is $04D8, PID is $000A). I assume that the "$" means "0x".
use a utility like USBVIEW to find out what is actually seen by the pc
USBView is a free utility from Microsoft that displays the USB connection tree and ... USBView is available for download as a .zip file by clicking here. ...

i use it wen i am not sure the device is properly connected, do hit the refresh button often enough (even if autorefresh is ON !)
you could download HQCT2 from Xtronic.be, this program has some basic functions for the HQCT (like setting a frequency) but it also informs if a USBHID device is connected.(it sees your USB mouse...)
USBHID devices do not need any driver (windows takes care of it)
If you use HQCT1 software (make sure you have the latest version from Datalex.be) you also need a dll that comes with it (the program complains and does not run if it is not there).
When the software runs AND the USB connection is OK you should see a 'flickering' number next to the 'Level' label, if that is the case evrything is OK, type in the frequency of a known station and hit the 'FreQuency FM' button.
If USB connection is OK but reception remains faint/bad you'll have to check your antenna/connection (reception may be very poor indoor)
and yes the "$" means "0x"

Diogenes: you were right-on correct. The problem was that my USB cable had some "intellagence" that precluded it from working. The USBview utility provided key visability, so that I could see what was happening.
When I got a straight USB cable from Fry's and hooked-it-up, I get AM and FM radio with controls working in the demo software *and* it does this *without* connecting antenna.
It sound great.
I have much more to do related to completing the car system, reinstalling and testing, and doing a graphical non-technical UI.
Thanks!
Any news/update on HQCT-V3.0, the version with the amplifier on-board ?

1) I don't know if I have something set incorrectly or what but, when I close RR then re-open the stations I set were not saved.
Is there something I have overlooked or just don't know about on this problem? Any help/suggestion will be appreciated.
2) My HQCT seems to be off frequency by @ 50KHz. Is this normal/systemic or maybe something wrong with my unit?
On another note:
LOVE RR interface...VEEEERRY NICE!
The HQCT is better than all off the shelf tuners I have tried by far!!
Again, any help will be appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

as to point 2: a question (couple of) is it in Am, FM or both, how do you know you're 50 KHz off?
Diogenes.
Will try AM tomarrow. In FM if the station freq is 107.3 I will get some statice w/no stereo, but if Iset to 107.35. get stereo and very little static.as to point 2: a question (couple of) is it in Am, FM or both, how do you know you're 50 KHz off?

Must have bad downloads. No HQCT software I have does that. I have noticed that the volume sounds the same but but when I re-open HQCT1 all indicators and freq list are as if I opened for the first time. When I go to adjust anything then the volume drops to original indicated level.HQCT saves the last setting

Can this thing be programmed to tune two different AM stations at once?
OK, OK, I know it's a really wierd question. Let me explain. Where I live there are only two AM channels worth listening to and I was thinking about a way to record them throughout the day. That way I could hop in the car at 1:30 and listen to a program that started at 12:00 on AM #1. If I don't like that I can switch to the other station and listen to it's 12:00 program.
Yeah, I know that there's probably not any software that does this already on a car pc, and that I could do it indoors with a radio shark or two.
At first I was thinking you'd need two HQCTs, which would be complex as you might need two sound cards, etc. But, wouldn't it be cool if I could tune two channels and send radio channel A down the left stereo side and channel B down the right stereo side? Of should I just get my crack pipe back out?
