Its a creative labs Zen XTRA.

I am just wondering if theres an adapter, or sumthing I can fabricate myself so the MP3 player can just plug into the laptops hardrive port.

Note: I dont really need to do this anymore, cuz i extended an old laptops screen and I guess i should have made better connections.....cuz theres to much distortion. Fun project tho.

    Anythign is possible....

    some work some dont....
most likely tho there is a lock. I know that even between different iPod generations special hardware is installed to prevent swapping between them.

if not...maybe just mount it somewhere and via usb use it as an external drive.....booting from however wont work then.......

Be careful of voltage. Many of these small drives are 3.3v based, laptop drives are generally 5v. That said, the inerfaces are usually IDE so it is a case of just connecting pins together (once you solve the possible voltage level issue).

I think the Zen Xtra uses notebook HDs, so you should be good to go. I think.

some of the Zen's had a 2-3GB CF card I believe.
People were buying them still to get the CF Drive.

Do CF cards have the same interface as notebook drives? From memory i remeber them being similar sized but do they have the same pin out?
