Hey mark or shotgun, have either of you figured out how to get S-Vid to work or should i stick to RCA? I'm about to take apart one of the cameras just to see it work
Also, mark, i'm getting inconsistent powerons off the car adapter. What could be causing that? When it works, it works great, when it doesn't it doesn't. The sad thing is that the image it produces is alot cleaer than my eyes can see...and the nitemax has been a very useful Ops tool![]()

Haven't spent any time on it as of late. Honestly, at that resolution, I don't know if you'd see any big difference from Composite vs VGA.Originally Posted by Genesisfactor

Figured they were worth a shot for $5. I'll let you know what's what when they arrive.
Alright, so I'm waiting on my new lens with auto-iris to come.
Then I remember that giant compustar lens I have. I went to hook it up and apparently had the wrong datasheet. This lens has it's own iris circuitry built in instead of the camera driving the iris directly. So you feed it power and video and adjust the knob to determine compensation (anywhere between peak and average intensity.)
What a difference. Here's two short (~500k) videos showing the iris turning on. This lense is F1.2 so the blinding effects are even more noticable than with the other cams. As you can see, the pics with the iris fully open are fairly useless. As an aside, the lamp is not that bright, those bulbs are only 15w.

So if the iris of the new lens being driven by the camera is similar, then that and a polarizer should be a giant improvment.
update
As an aside, when I was testing this earlier looking outside, I shut off all the lights (to kill the reflection on the window) and while toggling the iris, a alligator clip came loose and shorted something. Only I didn't know it.
In short order, the picture went out, then in the dark I saw little blue sparks and then the wires start to burn. I fumbled for the plug in the dark and yanked.
My camcorder was unscathed, but judging by the smell and scorch mark on the board of the nitemax, figured the nitemax, and probably the electronics of the auto-iris lens were toast.
Everything survived, let's hear it for good engineering.
lol don't you hate it when little aligator clips slide off.
