not up to speed with this thread yet but wanted to say:

    1. good stuff guys...i have been doing a HU disply on the glass infront of my speedo etc. It is only 1" high so the curvature does not cause a problem. However i have to use a mirror on the bottom and relfect back up so I might try using a thin sheet set at an angle behind the glass instead.

    2. Be careful with LCDs left pointing up at your windshield in sunlight as the UV will destroy the lcd panel over time. i was planning on having my nav screen pop up out of the dash but might experiment with a hud style.

also...i need a ****ing nitmax camera...or something similar any suggestions/links?

As far as the cameras, I think Mark still has a lot of the Nitemax components. The only thing he doesn't have is the power supply board, but that's easy enough to get around.

For instance, all the vids I've been posting, it's just one of the Nitemax Ultra color CCDs

Finally got those projection tv lenses from Electronics Goldmine today.

Pretty sweet for $5 a piece. I grabbed two (in case I want to make a projection tv.)

They're pretty big, I think it's a triplet lens. But not so big that it would be impossible to fit in a car.

So as a test, I took my camcorder (which has a screen the same size as the nitemax) and went into a dim (not totally dark room).

Even with the puny lcd backlight on the camera, easily could project it to about 15-20" image on the wall from under two feet away

    A few pics...

The lens. Appears to have a polarized coating on it.

Now for the following shots, keep this is mind, the lcd is on a tripod, but the lens and camera are hand held. With no flash, the long exposure and my shaky hands, very hard to get a half decent picture. Also I'm projecting it onto a bumpy, flat-coat painted wall.

This is the lcd projected to about the size of a 32" TV. Keep in mind too, it's just the ****ty lcd led backlight illuminiating the LCD

Not sure, I ordered two lenses, some character lcds and a bunch of other odds and ends. I believe shipping was ~$7 for all.

The biggest problem I'll have with this + the hud glass is space. My windsheild is low slung.

BTW, just ordered another of these lenses. Last time I posted about the hud glass, a few days later they went up a couple bucks.

I definitely want to try and make a DIY projector with one.

    Some better pics..

Some distortion at the edge, but I'm pretty sure that can be accounted for.

To be honest, I'm more thinking of using a nitemax lcd to make my own projection tv at the moment. The res ain't great, but at this point, mostly what I need is a lightsource. Happen to have some 300w projector bulbs around .

If you want to build a cheap projector/projection TV you can use an old PS1 mobile screen. They are pretty popluar choice for the home theater guys.
