whose lcd will you be using, if it's Mark's, he might help you out with technical power wiring information.

getting a signal from pc, would be vga to s-video converter , link was in the previous post.

Personally if you want to find out yourself, i yjink you should hook up some AA batteries with multimeter, i woundn't recommed though

haha mark and i are in decently close contact. he's a great guy. RCA is the source for the LCDs. Wee tried VGA and then S-vid is theory, but at 640x480, rca is viable and native, so therefore easiest. I need an Svid to RCA adapter for it to do dual monitor on my R51. The LCD requires a 12V at i forget how many ohm power supply without the PCB. there was a site i saw with some really cheap prices on wires and adapters for video; i have to find it again.

Are we talking about projecting the lcd or reflecting it?

If it's the later, I was too concerned

If it's projecting it so it's larger, that's a whole nother ball of wax. I think the easier solution might be a bigger lcd and just reflecting it.

I haven't abandoned working on this, just too buy with other projects, like the front end.

i'm actually thinking about trying both. See, when i was researching micro displays, such as those found in projection TVs, i found that the resolution is really low by computer standards, but the picture came out great on the TV. I'm wondering if, using the NM LCD, i can increase the size of the screen without buying a larger LCD with more res that we actually need. I mean, all in all, even when we do get ti working, the most resolution hogging thing i will need it for is a divx movie. Why watch it at a ~1:1 reflected scale with the LCD when you can do 3-5:1 with a magnified reflection. Ofcourse with magnification, light intesity is sacrificed, so yes, we'd have to technically project it using, hopefully usinjg LEDs. But even if its an extra few steps, it will make the HUD far more daylight visible than what i used to get and therefore end the restriction to night time use as solely a nightvision device.

Yev's link, and i'll edit it in later, used a TV wiht a 2.5" lcd with pretty decent results for <$60 worth of work and supplies (not sure if that included the old TV). LEDs are cheap and well...yeah. After that's done, then its back to the old double image problem, then getting a few visual settings done right, comptuer wise, and then we're golden.

And i get you on having other projects, i'm working wiht AIVMS and Media Portal. Both have PPC remote controls built in. Hopelly sama and lost will make some headway in the computer vision stuff when they regain focus on that. I have a few ideas, but we can only handle like, i dunno, 10 projects at a time, i mean geez, we're not superman . What are you working on, out of curiousity?

lol, ouch, dude, what are you building!? THat thing sounds like it's going to be hot. i've done that a few times (hit my liquid asset limits). If i figure anything out and come up wiht a design, i'll TRY to put it together in inventor that way you don't have to spend the moeny with R&D. Just keep it coming with the help and suggestions, which have been really good thus far.

***after reading link*** IM or email me, i have some cheap suggestings for a few of your "pending" items. It doesnt' seme like it adds up to 2gs, but hey, math is one of my weak points right now.

You can definitely project it in theory, I had mine just with the backlight and a pitch-blackk room, an 8ft screen. Very, very dim of course. Though projection takes lenses, light and room.

Though think of the other problem with projection, you need to be careful that sunlight isn't going to be spot focused on the screen or the lcd.

What have I been working on?

I snagged some leather Katzkins off ebay dirt frigging cheap, so trying to finish up redoing the leather.

    Trying to polish my front-end

    Working on the digital dash

This just got a lot more interesting and complicated. They finally made headway in cracking my ECU. So I'm going to ditch the ELM (and the software) and focus on this. Why? With the new cable I can read the ECU directly as well as tune and reflash. Not only can I get a ton more info than normally available (and maybe even operate my switches via pc), but the update rate goes from a paltry 10-15hz to over 200hz

And about 15 minutes ago, I won $450 in the lottery, so I'm off to order the cable and some things for another project, going to try a poor man's transflective for my lilli

Don't think that will quite work. One, the lcd will be like an ant under a magnifying glass around noon, but the bigger problem is the reflection.

With that setup, you'll see the light source.

Try this test. Take a piece of glass (or clear plastic) and angle it in front of you like the HUD would be.

Now use a flashlight as the "projector". Not only will you see the projected "image" from the flashlight, but you'll also see the flashlight's reflection itself and it will be much brighter than the projected image.

I think the trick that needs to be done is to oriented the setup as such so that the reflection of the projector is angled as such so it's not in your line of sight normally.
