i dont know of any state that lets you tint the whole front windsheild.

In the state of MD, the law is you can only have a 4" brow. However, most factory windsheilds have a 6 inch brow with a fade. This is ignored.

In all states, the top 4"-6" you can do whatever the hell you want. Below that is usually regulated. I think NY is 30% all around max

Actaully, i think you can in NY. I'm doing the whole windshield if i can. BTW, for those of you who want to see a HUD in acion, my myspace page has my two pics on it. The link is in my sig. This is before the tint. It IS really hard to catch it as the camera focuses on the scenery behind the image and you can't use flash, so you have to keep the camera steady.

Anyways, i'm going to get my hands on some tint and play with this. Right now i have to construct the LCD part to my liking (with projection and everything). Maybe i shouldn't have bought that watch and knife...ah well, time to sell junk!

I can't wait to get a new car...

    Mirror Image

Did anyone find a Windows utility to mirror the image so the reflected image shows up properly on the windshield?

i found something, a prank program, but i haven't played wiht it too much to figure out how it works. Also, the changes ti makes are random....so...yeah. I do know that with the nitemax LCDs you can rewire it to flip the image for you .

All the prank software i got didn't actually flip the screen it took a screenshot then fliped that.

The guy who makes the PDA software i use doesn't have time to work on it anymore so thats abit of a dead end if you don't wanna use a mirror

well i guess we came to conclusion of our big long post

    1) Creating Mini LCD projector, is a hassle, and takes reasonable amount of space, although projection is better than reflection, with 2.5 LCD projected you will have a possibily of using the screen during daylight

    2) Reflecting HUD is the simplest, and easiest way to achieve HUD, but it limits it's usability to dark enviroment. 5.6 inch screen, and above are recommended for such application, the legacy units can be purchased on ebay for under $60.00 shipped.

    3) a)Night Vision Cameras, after a research i did, it's proven that 1/3 ccd chip is the way to go.
b)LUX, measures amount of minimum light needed to have camera functional, (example 1 Lux= moonlight, so if you camera is rated
1 lux, and there is no moon, the camera would not pick up anything) 0 to 0.3 lux is recommended for night vision camera HUD application
c)Ebay, beware please be careful buying unknown manufaturer cameras on ebay, some of them tested with infrareds, not by themselves, therefore the provide innacurate information.
d)Camera that we would recommend would be Nitemax, Nitemax Mark would be perfect person to provide components for your setup

    4) Display options, VGA LCD screen would be most perfect for operation however it costs $$$, you can getaway with regular VGA to S-video, or RCA converter.

    5) What to Display on?, well that's a good question, there are many products out there used to project, even Holoscreens are not 100% efficient, 2 way mirror tint would provide nice see thought reflection, do not go below 15% otherwise you will see yourself, instead of traffic

6)Image Tune UP, well it depend what method did you go with, if you went with:
a)projection, you would have to adjust the lens, focus, and of course reverse the screen for appropriate view
c)reflection, you wuld have to adjust your screen placement on the bottom of the dash for better results

please pm if i missed anything

lol, yev, thsi project is FAR from over, its just beginning.

I'm not convinced that projection is out of the question for at all. Also i'm getting my hands on LCDs of several different sizes in the next few weeks to test out a few things. Also, reflection is technically projection, and still have the same elements of concern (focus, reverse screen) as full out projection.

I'll edit this for a more complete response :P. No time right now. Hehe, honestly, we have very innovative people such as altri and shotgun on this. We're not going to be done for a while. Plus, its kinda alti's thread, so only he can "conculde" it

i know, but this is so far what we have accomplished, after 31 pages of posts.

also LCD projection system would be the best, as i memoed in my previous post, because it would project better, and brighter.

My brother does airsoft games, so we a working on bolt on kit for a helmet, and display image through 2 way mirror glass, attached to the helmet,

most likely we will use a reflection method for that piece
