The point of the caps in series with your "hot " line level is to block any DC coming from your line level sound source.
keeps DC voltages on their own side if you like but passes AC (audio) signals. size should be ok for these experiments, suppose smaller and non polar would be safer, you do know electrolytics blow up if you reverse bias them?
not following when you say headphone jack- what/where is that ?

headphone jack: see picture DSC00090.jpg post #6.
Its plugged into the "headphone out" of the CD player.
I was getting sound from the "line out" of the CD player before adding the capacitors. No sound now, but I am getting sound out of the "headphone out" plug. Its not very loud, but its there. Even at max volume on the CD player, the sound is too low. This is how the iPod will work, with the sound coming from the headphone plug. I would prefer to get the signal from the iPod from its own "line out" but thats different mission.
I kind of figured that the caps only went one direction. I hope I got it right! They have an arrow shape on them. I have them so they point away from the CD player and toward the cassette deck.
Apparently, I might not even need a switch. It seems that if the signal from the CD is strong enough, it will overpower the radio signal.

How did you make out on this adapter? I got a Delco stereo from a 93 Ciera in my 83 malibu wagon, and I'd like to do this to it. If you could sticy a walktrou or something, that would be sweet. later

I did this kind of thing once in the 90's, using a 2 button CDROM, (it had the play button on it), what i did was wire the audio out (from cdrom or mp3player, whatever u want) and wire it directly to the wire header of the casette head on the mainboard, what i then did is, to play a casette, i could simply put the casette in and it'll work, provided im not playing anything on the input side, and if i wanted to play the mp3 player or cd player, i would put in a modified casette with the wheels separated, so they will just turn, and activate the deck to play whatever is feeding the head of the casette...

I dont know if you understand the terms i used, I'm not sure what to call those parts :P

anyways, works for me, and it leaves the OEM unit working the way it originally should

Oh yeah those days are gone now, i have massively upgraded since lol

I figured this out and now have a working ipod input in this style radio. (97 chevy S10)

The white wire is one audio channel, and the light orange one is the other audio channel. Cut them and splice them directly into the headphone cable going to the ipod. I used the chasis as the ground, but there may be a cleaner ground. If someone could show me a cleaner ground location, i would appreciate it.

Make sure to connect this plug back into the radio unit so that the amp will cut the radio signal when you insert a cassette into the deck. If you would like to retain cassette functionality, use a dual pole-dual throw relay to switch between cassette and ipod. I did this in my Bonneville cd player and it works great.

The large "fill" areas on the PCB might be better
check with an ohmmeter they are actually ground?
