If I can order one and have it sent to you for you to finish, I will.
(I would want it back, though!) I am not sure that would give you much more time....
What else, EXACTLY, do we need hardware wise?
Ron
For all you waiting out there for a solution, I am almost there. I was able to borrow a dice unit from one of my friend's who was visiting and have 2 way control of the dice unit, along with setting the 'rdstext' and 'rdsname' for RR to display. It is still not stable to be released, also, I do not have the dice unit anymore and will only be getting mine at the end of the month so hopefully I will be able to release a fully working solution by mid april.

Well the stuff needed hardware wise has been listed numerous times in the post. But here it is again, you need an I-Bus interface (either serial or USB), a dice unit for a 2003 3-Series BMW, a 10K resistor and some wires.
The way this works exactly is by simulating a I-BUS which exists on a BMW and sending command sent by a BMW radio to the DICE unit and then interpreting the data sent by the DICE unit. I can have this software done real quick if i can get my hands on a unit earlier, since I own a BMW and am very familiar with interfacing thru the I-BUS and the commands on this IBUS. There is already software out there which will do this but its not presented in a nice interface to make the controlling of the DICE unit simpler.
My interface software is almost complete but I need to do more testing and as mentioned earlier I do not have a DICE unit at hand to test things.
Sorry to ask that question, but I seem to remember a post saying that the I-bus may not be needed, and also a post that questioned the resistor actually needed.
I'll see if I can get my dice unit in here ASAP. If so, I'll send it to you, but I may need some help from you getting it set up to work with my car pc when I get it back. I run RR, and the digital FX skin. I am good with hardware, but lost with the software side.
I just ordered a Dice unit with these options:
hd-bmw-t
2003 BMW 325
radio without navigation
standard radio system
I also ordered this from www.hacktheibus.com :
Reslers IBUS Interface v5
I'll grab a 10K ohm resistor from Radio Shack.
Ron
Ron the IBUS is an absolute necessity as all the communication is being done thru this bus. What we are doing is creating the I-BUS outside of a BMW by using rolf's interface and then using this bus to communicate with the DICE unit. The I-BUS is actually a serial data interface where the data line needs to be pulled up to 12V and that is why we need the resistor to pull up the data line.
Also, multiple people have posted that they will be willing to contribute if someone can get this to work. I am very close to getting it done and if those people can paypal me the contributions to get a DICE unit I think I could get this done in a week or so. If anyone is interested in contributing please PM me. I would love to see to get this done but unfortunately without contributions there is no way I can get a DICE unit until next month. Ofcourse, unless Ron send's me his.
As suggested by CaliM5, I am starting a list with names of people willing to contribute to see this get done. I do not want people sending me the money if we cannot get this list up to a minimum of $200. Once the list reaches $200 I will need the people to paypal me the money so I can get a unit and get cracking on the software. Anyone who is willing to contribute please either post a message with the amount and I will add it to the list or PM me if you want it to be anonymous.
The list as of now:
xtremak (me) : $50
Kamakazie2 : $25
CaliM5 : $25
JW™ : $25
rcubed3r : $25
----------------------------
Total : $150.00
I wasn't kidding about sending you my unit. LMK.
Put me in for $25.
Ron
Ron, I didn't think you were kiddin. If the list does not add up to $200 soon I might have to take you up on it.
