when it comes time to connect up the ibus adaptor, I read somewhere that you can use the audio cable form a CD rom (the 4 pin cable), and that fits nicely in the ibus plug at the back, near the CD player plug

I was thinking the exact same thing!
Were all set to go, just waiting now for the ibus adapter to get here.
I found out how to get the ibus working without the ibus. I spoke with the guys on hackthe ibus and they confirmed the hook up goes like this:
12v pin: Give 12v+ to the Ibus interface and the DICE unit
Ibus pin: Give 12v+ with 1kohm resistor to the Ibus and DICE unit
Gnd: Ground to both Ibus interface and DICE unit

Received my HD DICE today. I did not order the iPod cable, will have to and then find someone with an iPod. If time permits tonight I'll attempt to hook it up to my friends Z3, just to verify that it works, still no HD stations in my area.![]()

Well i would have to say that the HD part of this is simply an added benefit. I would be thrilled with plain old analog radio. Let me know how it sounds.. im still waiting for my Ibus.. it shipped today.
I have the cables spliced apart and ready to go.. 12v and gnd all hooked up all i need to do is plug it in to the ibus and were all set!

Took apart my DICE HD. I've taken pics, will post them soon.
The unit consists of 3 PCBs, the main PCB has the Antennae connector, dip switch1, the Ipod interface, and the audio out connector. The tuner PCB is a Samsung HDRMUHHN00PTA rev 2.2c and plugs into this board and sits on top of it. The car interface PCB sits to the side and connects via a 10 pin ribbon cable, this connector has the car interface and dip SW2.
Now for the goodies...
The main PCB uses an HCF 4066 chip for driving the communication lines to the car interface PCB, which uses a PIC18F2410T-1/SO to convert the Ibus data format to the tuner data format.
So it looks like it would be possible to build an interface board with a USB port on it that would talk to the main board.
I'd be willing to bet DICE can't do this per their licensing agreements with Ibiquity and their agreements with the RIAA. But there have been those that did do it with the XM and Sirius units.
Unfortunately that's about where my abilities end.

Should be get this thread moved to hardware development? Seems like that's where it really belongs.

Ok the other IC on the main PCB is a BD3805F , that is a 4 channel audio controller, must be a switcher for the iPod interface, it's controlled via a I2C bus, so what do you wanna bet the communication between the car interface PCB and the main PCB is also I2C ?
