hey scott - do you think you might be able to get some pictures with measurements of the boards in the Behringer by chance?

I know it's less than ideal, but at least it's easy. If you plan on using the DAC, why not just use a simple 2 channel attenuator for volume on the output of the dac going into the behringer units?

Dave Navone and I think PAC makes a simple one.

    PAC LC1

    David Navone N-22V

Dammit. Now I'm wanting to use the behringer units but one is affordable 2 makes it less affordable for me

Are you referring to the N-22V?

It's an option, I just need to be sure it's going to be linear enough...

One concern I have is that it needs to be connected between the HU and the amplifier...don't know why it wouldn't work between HU and processor? I'd also need to change from RCA to XLR to go into the processor.

yep that's what I meant (fixed)

I don't see why it wouldn't work. I guess it's cheap enough to try out. Ideally it's not int he optimal location (should be at the end of the chain, but at least it's an option.

just one question: the balanced outputs....is it possible to set those to unbalanced via software or is it ok for the unit to see an unbalanced cable on the output side?

balanced has nothing to do with the software. you just ground (pin 3 i think) and you have an unbalanced signal. I'll double check that for you when i get the owners manual but i believe that was what pin i grounded on the behringer amp i am using for my home theater subs.

as far as the advantages of the twisted pear over the dave navone attenuator.. you can keep the tp attenuator close to the behringer unit and remote mount the volume control. another plus is that the pot isn't in the signal path. if you go to diyaudio and check out what they use for their pots they sky rocket in price in order to retain the signal quality.

Yeah - I know that, sometimes on some pro audio pieces you can go into the software and tell is to not send out a balanced signal. At times, some amplifiers that don't need or want balanced inputs need this to work properly...just jumping the pins doesn't cut it.
