Hi,
I am just wondering what the audiophiles out there think about audiophile grade capacitors and inductors. How significant can you actually hear the difference between a good quality capacitor or inductor vs an average one? If you do hear a difference, could you describe exactly what kind of difference you heard?
I am just wondering because I designed my component speakers myself, but I used some lower cost polypropylene capacitors and I am just wondering if it would be worth it to upgrade.
I also have some Altec Lansing MX5021 speakers hooked up to my laptop and was wondering if a mod such as this would improve the sound:

Your opinions are welcome.
Are you talking about capacitors for a cross over network? Using cross-over circuitry with a higher slope will result in greater clarity depending on your components ability to manage the frequencies that "leak" through.
Large capacitors for voltage regulation under heavy loads (such as for subwoofers) are 99% marketing gimmicks. A battery contains for greater voltage stabilizing characteristics than any cap.
Unless you are worried about the saturation of caps and inductors from high power, it is a ghost hunt for many audiophiles. Better money can be spent going with active crossovers and power amplifiers giving you the ability to tune to your liking, possibly better headroom and not worry about electronic component ghosts.
System always under construction
Well all the passive components make difference but question is will you be able to hear such difference in the sustem you've built. Can you please describe your system and I might be able to give you a better idea.
As far as saturation - well you using same value caps/coils so you obiviosly not doing it for saturation LOL
As far as higher order x-overs - typicaly high orders passive sound worse (dead , more synthetic)- not better, but it's a system design/driver choice which dictates most appropriate x-over design.
About caps in power supply beeing marketing gimmicks - wit amps slew rates is in high100,000s volts a secconds I would like to see any battery at any price capable of not needing lockal buffers LOL)))))))))))))))))))))))))
