I am debating replacing my dieing C2D laptop with a DC-DC + mobo. What low powered boards have you been able to run a vst host on. Atom is too slow I am assuming? AMD APU? i3?

lol, i just replied to your post in the amd cpu/case thread..
how much processing do you need? as i'm sure you already know, it is not the host that is the real draw, but the amount of plugins, and how well they were written..
i did run console on a atom board, but it was very picky-- i could not run much more then 3-4 plugins without hitting 30% cpu--which was enough to cause audio breakup..
Ah, that is better than I expected on an atom to be honest. Right now I only have the crossover and eq but need to eventually have time delay on as well. Just have still not got around to it. Just hard to gauge since what I have now is pretty decent just I think it is starting to die. Some times the Dell "bios post" progress bar can take a minute or so to complete. I ended up posting there first curios in general but figured I was better on just asking here to the small group that actually know what a vst host is. :-D
