Thread: audio over USB v. optical

I haven't given up hope per se, just hope about help on this forum.

I'm still persuing it, just on my own accord.

I've made another contact as well through a friend.

One thing I've learned from the people on this forum is that it's very hard for them to differentiate betwen what they think could be done and what could ACTUALLY be done for a consumer ready product.

Hacking something together is still an option, but it's not an option for a consumer ready product.

doug, though sometimes slow to get back to me, has always come through. great person to deal with and very knowledgable. i wouldn't give up hope on him either. maybe a reminder email in a week or so and he should get back to you.

nah - I haven't given up hope on him...I have no doubt he's a busy guy.

for the 7 days this thread was here I think there was some pretty good input.... I think if you really want to develop what your looking for by yourself, you'll need to learn a whole hell of a lot in the areas of usb communication as well as signal transfer & software, not to mention learning all the electronics involved, theres a whole lot you'd need to learn to be able to build something like this yourself.... or, have someone build it for you...

no, it's because no matter how many times I would state that this or that wasn't an option, they would be thrown out as an option.

I feel like I'm just going in circles and not going anywhere.

No matter how many times I would say that PCI wasn't an option, it would be thrown out as an option. I would say a rack mount wasn't an option, and it would be thrown out as an option. I would say that RCA was needed, and something other than RCA would be thrown out. I've stated that this device will not do the audio processing, yet it's thrown out that we need to make it do the audio processing.

Basically, we were just going in circles and not getting anywhere because we were stuck on omitting the needed items or completely overlooking them.

I'm not going to be designing this on my own, as I've also stated many times. I've stated that I'm going to be going to someone to help with the design. I've also stated that I've contacted a few people about it too.

As such, I felt I wasn't getting anywhere and was spending more time repeating the conditions set forth and not actually moving forward on anything.

yeah, so is the nature of a forum. i'll still post in this thread when i find things out though.

Here is a German audio enthusiast (Doede Douma) who built his own USB --> DAC. The site is: http://www.dddac.de/ and the project is: DDDAC1543 MK2. He uses multiple DACs to gain sound resolution but not more channels.

The power supply for the project. It needs 12 V DC, 5 V DC, and 3.3 V DC. So it could run on automotive voltage with proper power supply.

It feutures USB audio in, Coax S/PDIF, and uses I2S bus to route the audio around.

Another site I found: http://www.wolfsonmicro.com/productListings/codecs/ has a slew of audio DACS (CODECS). Many are I2S compatiable and have larger number of inputs and outputs. Here is a PDF: http://www.wolfsonmicro.com/uploads/...8522_04_06.pdf that has some marketing pitch on it.
