laptop battery is a must?

im planning to use the carnetix p1900 to supply power to my laptop carpc.

But the battery no longer works for the laptop.

I was wondering if i could still control startup/shutdown with my carnetix without a battery?

Is hibernation still possible?

Power with no battery generally. Does the laptop work with a power cord on your desk?

If so it should work in the car. Same should be true for hibernation.

yea works with the ac power supply, just not standalone with the battery.

Since the Carnetix unit replaces the AC power supply, you won't need a battery.

I think more of what he is asking is can you boot with the car starting and hibernate without a laptop battery. I think most laptop guys have a script that senses the ac power disconnected and the laptop switches to battery which runs the program causing it to hibernate. This is what I am looking into right now also since my laptop battery is dead and the laptop will be used in cold weather. batteries and cold do not mix.

I would really like to make something similar to this but still unsure how to power it off without a battery. I for sure don't want to be clicking hibernate each time i get out of the car. Also you risk forgetting to hibernate and coming back to a car with a dead battery.

I will do some more researching today and see what I can come up with. I will post here once I find some type of solution that makes sense.
