Laptop On When Key in ignition

Hi all, ive been looking around at the other threads but couldnt make sense of it all :|

I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 which i want to use with a Xenarc MDT X700 monitor.

What i want to know is, how can i get the laptop to start when the keys in the ignition? Im sure a wire needs to be fed from the battery etc.

I use a amp which turns on when key in ignition so im sure it runs similar to that, can the amp be used to aid this?

Also do i need to strip the wiring from the Plug (UK Plug) and use that in the wiring?

Hi all

Im a computer techy so know my way around hardware and software but this is a new venture for me... please help

I have a dell inspiron 1501 which i want to be turned on when the key is in ignition and gone to sleep when the keys out of ignition (or summin where the battery isnt used or drained when not in use).

I dont want to use a power invertor because that just looks ugly in my honest opinion ( http://yourgadgetstore.com/images/ca...r_inverter.jpg )

I have a subwoofer in my boot which is connected to an amp. the amp switches on when the key is in ignition it has a line from the battery, a remote and a ground. Can this be used to aid the power to the laptop?

Pretty sure the carnetix has a mode that allows you to turn a laptop on.

Have a search though, you need to solder some wires onto the switch of your laptop. I soldered wires from the laptop power switch onto the modem phone line connectors on the laptop and I plug my start button into the phone connector. The carnetix can be set up to "press" the switch the same way.

sorry for my ignorance, ive found that ur talking about a relay box.

how would i implement this? my main issue is wiring.

Yup. I use an Opus, butr I think Carnetix might be easier.

oh ok. would the p1900 work? and is it easy to wire up?

from what i can see, id need to make my own power cable from the psu to the laptop.

id like to do summin similair but without that ugly invertor
