I have seen many posts and I have not come across any that actually explain how to hardwire or connect your laptop/netbook power directly to your car battery.
If anyone has come across a post in the forum I overlooked or missed in the search, please post the link.
I also want to know if you would still need to use a fuse in between the wiring from the battery to the laptop/netbook and if you could still keep the laptop/netbook battey connected using this power solution.
I am researching future implementation of solar power for my eeepc in the car but want to get the basics down regarding connectivity to the car battery for now.

Great! Thanks for the reply. Seems simple and straight forward. I just need to look for an auto power adapter.

I've been toying around with just hard wiring in a 600w power adapter into my trunk's 12volt outlet and then plugging in the laptop to that.
... it'll provide some protection through the power adapter's smart sensor so I don't end up draining the car battery.
Plus I'm just lazy.
Just my 2 cents.
