Psssst! It's still just a Dell...
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

Under normal circumstances, a signature would go here.

Lol, this is kinda true. This is literally the ONLY reason I *hesitated* to buy one. Not a fan of Dell, but w/ the warranty I paid for, nothing can go wrong lol

BUT, w/ that screen, superb processing and memory, I'm considering just building it into my truck. But I have plenty of room to do a full scale truckputer and everything, and either would be pretty cool.

So anyways, what is out there that is better quality for the money? I did some searching, and this seemed to be about the best I could find in a 15"er. What others would you suggest?
Not that I need to be perpetuating this topic, but when Darque said 'it's not ideal', I think he was assuming you were looking at it as a carPC, hence being on this particular forum, etc... Not that he thinks it's not an ideal laptop for you.

And, I have to admit, I normally laugh at people with Alienware, especially PC's over laptops. Way back in the olden days (maybe five years ago), people would show off with the Alienware PC's. That's like a guy showing up for a Grassroots racing event with a Corvette ZR1 and bragging about how his car's faster than your turbo'd Civic or Supercharged 5.0L Mustang.. anyway, if you can't build it fast, buy it fast.
I'm ranting now, let's end this topic.

    Cheers,

    Kris

Lol, I understand what you guys are saying. Even if I do use it as a truckputer, I'm pretty sure it'll work out VERY well. I'm more of a "build quality" sort of guy, seeing as how I can get that type of processing/memory in a bunch of other laptops that are more than likely cheaper (and, for all I know, just as well built). But there are a few things that I am ALL about, and one of them is build quality. The quality of them is, imo, unsurpassed in a laptop (especially for my purposes).

I'm all for a tank of a computer, no matter who makes it. All of the ridiculous processing (basically the best available for a laptop this size) is obviously a huge plus, but if it can't handle a little abuse, I'd rather not buy it. Soooo there are a few reasons for choosing this over some of the cheaper options. I don't feel as though I'm buying the "name", but the rather the build quality.

The more I think about it, though, the more I'm considering building it into my truck. A full hi def 1080p 15" screen would be pretty cool, as well as having super fast processing, video playback, gaming, etc etc. Hmm, maybe I will use this in my truck.

Ha, even if it's "still a Dell" there's really only 3 or 4 laptop manufacturers out there, everyone else just re-brands. Alienware, Sager, Dell, Compaq, etc... they're all a Clevo or a Compal or a Eurocom or a Twinhead... Asus makes their own, MSI makes their own. I found out recently that even Toshiba re-brands, which I always thought they were their own manufacturer. I'm not even so sure about Sony these days either...

Just expanding on what malcom2073 pointed out.

That's some interesting info, man. Thanks for the link, too!

I'm really considering putting it in my truck now, though. I'm pretty sure it'd be great for the application. It's a great package, and well built. In my truck, it's gonna need it

I knew about the rebranding, but I was also under the impression that Toshiba did their own thing. I have not seen a shell produced that looks anything like the Toshiba tablets.

And @ Goose, nah. I'm not a fan of those. I'm not hard on them. My sound system will be the only thing hard on my laptop. This is also my school laptop, which is why I have such a huge amount of processing and memory. If it were going in a rock crawler or something, maybe, but there's no need for something like that. They're geared toward surviving abuse, not performance. I got both
