Thread: Alienware

It's a high performance laptop, geared toward a gamer. For that purpose, it's a decent laptop, but I think there are better values available.

It will suck lots of power and will be more subject to heat issues, making it a less-than-ideal candidate for a vehicle install. That doesn't mean it wouldn't work, only that it's not ideal.

I'm not going to be putting it my truck. I may build a dock for it, but that's about it. Other than that, it's going to be used for lots of homework, lol. And media, to run WinISD, Google Sketchup, and that's about it. What would you consider a better value? It has the best processing and memory available in a laptop. Aluminum case, excelent cooling, and built like a tank. For a 15" laptop, I'm not sure what you would be referring to. Other than the fact that it's got a pretty good graphics card, but not the best, I don't know of a more performance-oriented laptop available. What more is there to want?

So why are you asking about it here at mp3car, where the focus is on PCs in vehicles?
And why in a forum that is all about how to power a laptop in your vehicle?

Well could you move it? New to this forum, sorry. I saw "laptops", so I thought all laptop discussion went there. Especially when it says underneath it "Reviews and questions about laptops, netbooks, tablets, UMPCs and whatever comes next.".

So anyways, what is out there that is better quality for the money? I did some searching, and this seemed to be about the best I could find in a 15"er. What others would you suggest?

If you already ordered the M15x, then anyone else's suggestions are a moot point.

Not really. I can always return it and I'd like to see what others think about it. After all, isn't that what threaded discussion is about?

Edit: I was also considering just running it as my truckputer, and maybe going a route like that. I'm not sure if that would be a good idea or not: I practically live in my truck, and for my sound system, so I spend tons of time in it. Idk how much my lappy would like that though.

To be honest, Alienware is like Apple. You're paying for the name more than anything else.

I'm sure it'll perform well, the few status you listed look decent, but if you were to buy an equivalent Clevo or Compal it'd probably be significantly cheaper.

Agreed. For the money-to-computing processes, I'm quite certain I could get the same or almost the equivalent out of some others for cheaper, but what's more important to me than any of that is build quality. I wanted something sturdily built, metal casing of course, and well put together. The build quality on these is unsurpassed. I also am a fan of something that has some feel to it, and that isn't paper thin. I feel like I'd snap a Clevo in half, lol. I guess that and a good warranty give me piece of mind, you know? I've never heard of Compal, but I'll look around and see what you're talking about.
