The major issue(for me) with ICE3 is the Audio that doesnt work when coming back from sleep/hibernate 1 out of 3 boot.....this really ****es me off...

When I'll be really ****ed, I'll simply sit down and start my own FE, for now I'm thankful and use ICE3 in my car

The best way, IMO, would be to work together (1 to 3) and create a nice MacOSx FrontEnd with a basic interface. Make sure the apps is bugs free, and then work on the interface...

Anyway...

Take a look at AMP XM. Open source and basic interface with good audio and video integration along with XM. Works a lot like front row.

Sygic is under wine but works.

I dont have any problems with the audio coming back from sleep or hibernate (deep sleep).

Though, the volume I have set on wake to be 100%, it seems to startup playing at 100%, drop to 50% then slowly over 1-3s go to 100%. Odd but not horrible.

The beachball/cursor shows up every once inawhile even with the setting off.

The clock isnt on every "side of the cube", which makes driving without one a pain now (sure, my fault I spose, but cmon)

Scrolling needs to be sped up vertically (hitting a button a bunch of times to page down isnt as quick as point to a place in the scroll bar and go, like the music already has when playing, i understand with HUGE playlists this would be dumb, but there has to be something better).

Attenuate and NOT volume control (does anyone truly use the 5% at a time +/- volume buttons instead of an actual knob or other means) should be on every "side of the cube".

The star rating thing (i may be in the minority here) is really dumb and un-needed.

Ability to search by genre might be a nice touch.

Seems like I'm the only one having the sound not playing when coming back from deepsleep..... maybe I should reinstall everything fresh....

You got some good point ...thats why I may have to go my way in 2010 and try my best to code a nice frontend for mac.....

While I applaud your enthusiasm...you wouldnt be the first...and not to sound negative, but no one has finished one yet.

QCar came the closest, and was going to charge for it...but that was last year.

Sadly, all the people coding are in college, use it for project(s) or something, graduate/get busy/get a job, and forget to finish the project.

Whats worse is most, i saw, didnt even have a CarPC, yet coded a front end anyway.

Thats the major issue! It's the same problem with the microsoft frontend environnement but there's more people using Windows as a CarPc and with RideRunner it makes it easier to SKIN without having to CODE a new software.

What if we could do the same as RideRunner did, but for MAC ?

It only takes an original idea, but it needs to be taken seriously. Thats why I'm trying to take some free time to learn Cocoa. I may even go back to school to finish my diploma since I have a C++ course left to do lol I guess it's a good timing.

As for the lack of support, I'll probably have a Mac in all my Cars so there's no reason I won't offer support. If I eventually start coding, I'll surely need some help and some advice.

What about trying to make FrontRow usable with a touch screen?
You can add plugins to FrontRow!

Or try XMBC: it's quite good!

Build a decent touchscreen skin for XBMC that runs at 800x600 and is easy to use...and Ill use XBMC on my mac.
