I hope you will sort it out soon. In a perfect world they (the software makers) would not need activation. I don't like it either, but what can we do :-(

Ya, have you tried to return your activation? I did that with my original hard drive once I got norton to partially restore the disk. Inav's system said activation stored and then when I went to reactivate the next day, I still get the message that "computer is already activated on another system". Mabey some hacker created a program and used my codes, but this is just crazy. I have had to use my garmin sitting on my dash for the last 2 weeks, not alot of fun.

Anyway, at this point, Inav is on my S--- list and I will just prey that Tom Tom or Garmin comes out with some decent nav software.

Also, what software company that sells as much software as Inav only has 1 tech person and then closes the entire company for some kind of retreat. At the very least, someone should be checking their email and voicemail.

The unfortunate thing for Inav is that I serve on a board of a large public agency that needs new nav software for their law enforcement and fire vehicles. If it wasn't for finding out this is such a poorly run company, I would have recommended the purchase of 1000+ copies of 4.0.

    SWW,

Are you saying that it's designed to actually crash your system? I've had a terrible time with random reboots since I loaded iG4. It's a legit copy that I loaded on my desktop and my carputer, but I've loaded it onto my carputer a couple of times thinking that a bad install was causing the reboots. Is it possible that my reboots are activation related?

Thank you, LR. That site is a hoot. I have bookmarked it and am sure I'll be visiting often.

No, not your system. Its just designed to never run Ig4 again if you do a back up or reinstall. Even if its on the SAME computer! Crazyness. When you finally do get tech support (which you cant this week), their one tech person says all the activation codes are under lock and key by some exec and they can't give them out even if they know your a registered user. In fact, I bought my last copy of IG4 direct from Inav, so its not like they did not know for sure if I had a legal copy.

I don't know who they hired to wright their activation code, but I hope he was cheap.

wait, you're saying that it can be installed 1x and that's all? Will a reformat solve the problem? What kinda "cookie" are they leaving on the computer that prevents re-install?!

Nope, tried that. Once you activate which is required, the software will never activate again or work again. I have sent 10+ emails to Inav and several calls and still no luck. I may just send the disk back and cancel the charge on my credit card.

I have uninstalled and installed 4 on my carputer at least three times without issue. I've also installed once on my desktop.

Since this thread is about iGuidance 4.0 let me give everyone the lowdown of what I think of it.

    PROS:
    New maps
    New POI's
(Maybe how it reads street names)

    CONS:
    ACTIVATION ACTIVATION ACTIVATION

Within maybe two weeks of getting the software my hard drive crashed! Now I had an image of the install state just before everything crashed (and had installed iGuidance 4.0). After restoring the image, I went to install the 4.0 version to my system. It will not activate and since I did not back up the license file.....

Ok, so I contacted support. After sending over 6 email's back and fourth (having clearly stated that I just need an override code and that it is not activating) I cannot use the software I bought.

So here is the funny part of this... The iGuidance I paid for does not work; however a version I did not pay for (That I may or may not have been running before 4.0) would work just fine!
