Just got 4.0 today. Liking it so far. I see it still lags behind by a second or two from my actual location. I asked about this on 3.0 and everyone else seemed to not be bothered by it, but it urks the poo out of me. Anyone else annoyed with it?

with full text to speech available in iguidance 4, there should be a way to monitor the next turn text and read it into roadrunner as a label. any programmers out there up for the challenge?

One of the things that bothers me is the update rate. Maybe it's the same thing as what you're talking about. I have a GPS reciever that updates at 5hz...yet IG only updates at 1hz. It's a little jumpy, but not bad. Not as good as the Honda Odyssey we test drove though. I think it's GPS updated at 5hz as well and the screen was nice and smooth, very fluid map updates and kept with the vehicle very well.

Is there ANY way to make IG update faster? I looked at registry settings and couldn't find much.

Remember that factory Nav systems do not only rely on GPS for tracking. I have had both and advantages to both. Remember the purpose of the Nav, it's to help you out when you don't know where you are going! Even with the slight lag, Ig4 does that quite well.
If you can dream it you can build it ( I think )
    Build File

how does the factory Nav system not rely on GPS for tracking? How does it know where I am at all the time, which direction is north, and when in the lower level of a parking garage, display a red icon showing no gps signal?

Not true at all. Some OEM Nav systems may take into account rotational wheel speed but thats about it. In my wifes TL her nav is fluid as can be. In my work truck my Magellan GPS is smooth as can be (Also with my previous PDA/BT GPS w/ TomTom 4 it was smooth there as well.

Its all about how the software reacts to the data stream coming from the GPS and its update frequency. Its not like IG is off by any means, once I come to a stop and a few seconds go by its right on the money. But I've seen every other Nav system out there (Weather it be OEM, after market or hobbled together (pda)) updates much faster.

Interesting! And yet the fools at TomTom don't recognize they have chance of taking over this market nitche (from inav) if they would only release a PC/UMPC version..

TT would look prettier, but the map data quality and the routing quality would not be as good as iG.

You're absolutely right! But i would bet most (including me) just enjoy watching that little arrow follow us around and the more accurate it reflect where we are, the more happy we feel.
