the technology is obsolete. they should have seen this coming 15 years ago before the first satellite went up. all they basically are doing is a 1-way satellite phone system. it worked fine before there was a cellular-internet network nationwide, but that koolaid only lasted less then a decade.

they didnt have the foresight to see where technology was heading and now they are the newspapers of modern society. satellite radio is useless and internet radio is KING.

Ideologically sat. radio is a great idea. When they can't afford to maintenance the satellites anymore, they will just piggyback the signal on ground repeaters. Defeats the purpose, so I hope they do spend some money on maintaining the sats, but it will work.

I hate commercials so I pay my subscription fee happily. If it was ground based and commercial free with the same channels I would still pay although I would expect it to be less.

Internet radio is essentially ground based when mobile since most is streamed through ground based cell networks.

I called them up the other day and told them I wanted to cancel my account. They asked why and I told them that I can not use the unit because it is tied to my Car PC which currently isn't setup, do to upgrades. So of course they asked me if I wanted to buy another radio, I said no because I have no head unit, lol. After going back and forth they finally asked if I wanted 3 months free, I said no because the unit wouldn't be ready till March of next year. They told me to simply call every 3 months and they will extend me 3 more months free of charge. I guess that shows they are desperate to hold onto people.

I have always been into Internet Radio, and also Sling Box. Sling Box is a bit sketchy on current Cellular based internet, but 4G is right around the corner and I plan on jumping on board with Comcast (reselling Clear Wire) when its down here. Now what I do like about XM is the fact that they have my favorite DJ shows on the dance channels, but honestly they are the only 3 channels I listen to. i only pay 9.99 though, so it isn't that bad. If I can find those same radio DJ shows on the internet, I will gladly drop XM. I have about 300 plus channels for internet radio, I know there are more. Also XM tends to play the same stuff more often. Every 30 minutes I seem to hear the same thing, while internet radio is every 3 hours.

I'm starting to see iG4 getting really outdated, anyone else have a solution to embedding iG2009 into CF?

yeah xm/sirrius does have superior content right now- but so does cable tv. just wait until 4g rolls around, with cars being built with internet radio built in at the factory. satellite radio will be scrapped, i truly believe that.

ok, you absolutely made a mockery of my post however, i did say 15 years ago that satellite radio would never be cost effective, a lot of people did too. ... although i did not foresee the cellular internet networks to improve so fast.

Are you kidding me, cell phones have been one of the fastest evolving markets. Im kind of ****ed that they are not moving even faster. I want 4G in my car so bad. Yes internet radio works good, rarely any buffering, but sling player stutters alot, and 4G would solve that problem.

The latest ETA for the next version of iGuidance is late spring, or summer, 2010. It will be mostly a map refresher, and a couple of new features.
