My first choice for the best was Garmin Mobile Pc then came the new version of Copilot and then Iguidance. This is the point, Iguidance is a very good program, but they are not learning an important lesson you have to keep up with the times. Think about it if you had a choice of buying 1996 Camry or a 2008 Camry for the same price both new never driven which would you chose I would bet the 2008 because they have made significant changes since the 1996 model. Most people stick with iguidance because most of our frontends are tailored for iguidance but if you check the forums more and more people are requesting that skins have support for Garmin Mobile Pc thats because its a better product right now. Ok iguidance is brining out the point of view feature, But Garmin has the ability to import custom poi's and on top of that I am in a part of the country, Montgomery County Md where we have the dreaded Speed cams But I dont worry because my garmin lets me know where it is on my gps screen I also get traffic updates as well as other features that Iguidance dont have. The gui looks just to great. But the point I am trying to make is give us features that we want and need and people will stick with your product but if you dont people will go else where and loyal customers will become critics, So lets not jump on people on the forums because they choose to go with a gps program that is offering what they want and need in a gps program. Blame that On inav. Just my opinion about the bickering over gps programs here. So lets discuss and compare but lets not argue and call names, I think we all here are more grown up then that.

i have to agree with you. there is nothing new in the iguidance software other than the POI search and the buttons. the lane changing guide and traffic pattern are features of the new navteq map. other than the new map, traffic pattern and lane changing guide are pretty much useless in many ways. traffic pattern will not work since data for the alternate city routes are not available. traffic on cities street are usually just as bad compare to the highway during peak hours. the lane changing images pop ups are only available perhaps at 5 percent of the time the most. one now has to wonders what inav development team have been doing for the past year? inav website was not updated over a year; no single updates and bug fixes for iguidance 4 ever since it was released over a year ago. iguidance 2009 is really actually iguidance 4.1

I wouldn't think releasing a free update for existing version users, even though iG 2009 is being released as well, has anything to do with "corporate greed".

A few months ago there was a new version of completely unrelated software that I needed. Days before hundreds of users expected version 3.7 to be available for download, the developer shocked everyone by released an update for v.3.6. When users questioned it, the developer just stated they knew not everyone would want to ever upgrade to 3.7, so they were still obligated to take care of their customers who use v.3.6.

I think the same applies to iNav and other software developers. It makes good sense to me.

The reason I chose iGuidance in the first place is because Garmin was such a bad product.

It took me AGES to install it properly and get all the stupid map packs installed, and then the real killer was no OSK.

If there was an On-Screen Keyboard in the version I had, I probably would have kept it since I *LOVE* the physical 4-inch garmin unit that currently sits in the car.

That's a misunderstanding, though . There are not going to be 2 new versions, only 1 (one) . It will be iGuidance 2009. On the box it will read "iGuidance 2009", but internally, for its own purposes, the developer will still call it iGuidance 4.1. Just like for example Microsoft products. Microsoft Streets & Trips versions 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, etc, are also known as versions 12, 13, 14, 15, etc.

For us, consumers, it is easier to understand the year numbering, but the developers are sticking to their own version numbering.

It most likely wasn't Garmins software but your system I have installed the program on 4 different systems and my own 2 times and it has zipped right in and installed. and the no osk is no problem I use the zero weight keyboard problem solved and like i said compared to Iguidance garmin is by far leaps and mounds above them. poi wise traffic wise custom poi wise look wise and so on. if iguidance would listen to the users there would be no debate. They are not keeping up with the other gps programs and if they believe I am going to dish out another $79 dollars to them and they havn't made any upgrades and Garmin charges $59.95 for there software for everyone. this is where I will be.

Garmin Mobile PC is an excellent choice, too. For several months it actually was my main GPS software that I used on a daily bases. Now I'll be using iGuidance 2009 for a while - at least till Microsoft comes out with Streets & Strips 2009. Too many choices, too much fun. And I think I should also devote more time to Mapfactor PC Navigator, now that version 8 has been released.

In my humble opinion there is no reason for putting any of these products down. They are all awesome. Just remember few short years ago. Where was all this technology then? Even though many of our items on our wish list have not yet made it to the newest version of some of our favorite software, the programs do improve a little by little at each version release, don't they?

No product is perfect. There will always be things we will talk about. Do you need this to work on two of your computers? If you go with iGuidance it will cost you $79? You would have to pay $120 to Garmin for two installations.
