Risk is the same for the time you are connected. If you aren't connected that often, then there is less opportunity for you to get a virus but then, you never know.
There are some free anti-virus packages out there you could use.
I am thinking of doing a carputer, and if so I would want wireless internet.
I have always used a cable for my home computer, and I got Cyberdefender protecting me from viruses and stuff.
By using a wireless connection with a carputer, does the risk of getting viruses go up or down?
Since I would only be on-line for short periods and mostly specific sites, do I still need anti-virus (I am happy with Cyberdefender, but I don't want to buy another license if I don't need to)?
Thump Thump Bumpity Bump!!!

Another thing to add to that, I've found that anti-virus slows down load/boot times, but it also will keep your butt covered.

1999 SVT Contour

Me, too, but it slows down access times a little because of its on-demand scanning. It is kick "A", though. When I work on people's computers, if they don't have anti-virus, I give them Avast!.

i use avast pro and i love it, ill never use anything but it..
I use the Avast Free addition as well. I find it to be the only antivirus software configurable enough not to tag RoadRunner/Riderunner as a virus. I dumped AVG because it was destroying my RoadRunner/Riderunner install even when added it to the exception settings.
Go with Avast Free it is the absolute way to go.
