Thread: I need a new phone, which carrier/phone intergrates the easiest?

I had t-moblie with work. My wife has at&t. Work is switching to at&t, but not keeping me on there plan. But I did talk with the at&t rep, and they can me a little bit better break on my plan, so I may be going with at&t. Any recomendations on a phone from at&t that may intergrate with my car PC some what easy?

unlocking it would allow it to work on other carriers-- jailbreaking a iphone is just so that you can use non-apple approved software, and features on it (like teathering).

iphone?!?

If I jail break my new iphone that cost $200, what happens when I manage it with itunes? Will appel and/or at&t know that this has happened? I have a itouch allready, but with the how much apple and at&t try to lock down and controll there product, how do jail break it and not pis*-*ff either of them. Also how easy is it to jail break it, and how easy/hard is it not to brick it as well?

Yes i understand this... I was looking into the iphone as i was considering to switch to AT&T (still considering) and all the programs i saw to enable tethering required jailbreaking and unlocking. I have no problems jailbreaking but i didnt want to unlock it.

yeah i havent had problems with att then again im not on it a whole bunch and yes mine is unlocked as well

i have a unlocked and jailbroken iphone 3g on t-mobile, but am still using 3.0 software.

everytime you update the iphone os, you would need to re-jailbreak, and re-unlock the phone. when doing this try to remember that there is a chance that apple has closed the holes that allow you to jailbreak/unlock the device-- this has happened at least once with the 3.1 update.

it will sync fine with itunes, just like it did before, the only difference is that software updates are more of a pain, and can't be mindlessly clicked to run(because you need to make sure that the update did not affect your ability to jailbreak/unlock the device).

there are many sites with instuctions on jailbreaking/unlocking-- as long as you follow the instructions for your model, you shouldn't have too many problems.

Any phone that uses the Android 2.0 (or greater) OS can use a software called PDA.net. It's free unless you need https access and even then, it only costs $30 I believe. It also works for Iphones but you do have to root them. I have a Motorola Droid and am using PDA net on 3G network. It connects to my phone via USB or even Bluetooth and it does it automatically. Perfect setup in my opinion.

You buy the n900 unlocked, it works on TMobile or AT&T. You *own* the phone, which means you can change carriers at your option without a contract buyout (at least in theory). Did I mention you don't have to jailbreak or unlock it?

As an added bonus, the n900 will integrate well with LinuxICE (as soon as I get mine). But you may only appreciate that if you like things that run fast and that are easy to setup and maintain :P.
