For any thread, you can choose to Digg it, add it to your del.icio.us account, bookmark it in Technorati, Furl it, share it on Facebook or add a Yahoo bookmark. We expect that this change will help forum members track information on car computing, do research, and get more people contributing to the Mp3Car Forum.

The Fusion Brain – How do you use it in your car?

Posted by armine in Product News

Fusion Brain The Mp3Car Store is excited to be selling the Fusion Brain and looks forward to the soon-to-be released 2.0 version. The Fusion Brain is the product of a little Mp3Car Forum demand, and a whole lot of work on the part of Mp3Car forum members Nick and Tim. This little device has been used by Mp3Car Forum members all over the world to control anything with an on/off switch, button, or relay in the car. You can even use the sensor to measure environmental conditions such as temperature, light, distance, acceleration, current draw, voltage levels, and more.

How are some Mp3Car Forum members using the Fusion Brain?
Nick uses it for home automation, and Tim has it in his car doing pressure and temperature readings and more. Nick was particularly impressed with Aaron's Christmas Light show including the reindeer on top his car all controlled by the Fusion Brain to the Trans Siberian Orchestra's music and suggested also checking out h3rk's completely automatic HVAC control which is still being developed.

How do you use your Fusion Brain? Share your innovations and ideas in the Mp3Car Forums Blog Talk section in the thread of this Mp3Car Blog post. And for all of you who are new to the Fusion Brain, take a look at what others are doing and spend some time reading up in the Fusion Brain Forum on the Mp3Car Forums.

How this product came to be developed is as interesting as the Fusion Brain itself. Nick and Tim, on opposite sides of the US, teamed up to develop prototypes for Forum users. They were both pleased and somewhat surprised when they found that demand exceeded the number of prototypes they had manufactured and got to work mass producing the Fusion Brain and other accessories. Living on opposite sides of the US, and still having yet to have met face to face, Nick and Tim are hard at work on Fusion Brain 2.0 – and we are waiting in great anticipation to see their results.

You can find the Fusion Brain and all related products in the Fusion Brain section of the Mp3Car Store!

Who is Heather?

Posted by armine in In and Around Mp3Car

Hello. I am Heather, or armine on the forums.  I started working at Mp3Car last fall, putting a hoHeather at Deskld on my work in international development. I used to spend my time backpacking through Latin America to find new cultures and learn Spanish, or working with Ukrainian non-profits in the Peace Corps.  Now, I spend my days in cyberspace on the Mp3Car Store to support customers and on the Mp3Car Forums and my iGoogle page (Engadget, Techdirt, How Stuff Works, Future Tense) to find out who is innovating in car computing, what products are new, and how we can get involved.

Why I wanted to work at Mp3Car is really best described in this Charles Leadbeater TED Talk about the inventors of the mountain bike. They were young bikers, frustrated with the  bike selection available, who hacked together parts of the standard types of bikes on the market and created a new product that would not have been created in any other way.  My personal goal at Mp3Car is to try in whatever way I can, to support innovators on the forums that create stuff people really want and need, perhaps products which no corporation would have thought of, or be able to create.

My role, in general, at Mp3Car is to make sure that we are focused on the right goals, as a team.  However, there is too much to do, so I have a whole bunch of daily tasks and my picture shows it.  The large screen shows the orders of the day which I am processing. You cannot see the other tabs in Mozilla - but they are the forums.  I have the calculator out because we are adding a new product and I am trying to see if the vendor price is fair – I do all the financial management.  I’ve got business cards falling over – why can’t people just use vcards?  There are some product returns on my desk, already processed, that need to go into stock. And, I have the Ethiopian coffee that we buy from a nice family-run coffee shop in DC (all fair trade), called Sidamo, to get me through the day, and the iPhone which I use at night to add new places of interest to the Nearby App- a great concept, but a little flaky and not getting too much support in Baltimore.

I may be in contact with you if you have a customer service issue as I manage most of these, if you are a new customer and I want to call to say hello, if you are a vendor and need to get paid, if you are a vendor and we would like to sell your product, if you just signed up for the forums but mistyped your email address,or if you just have an idea and I wanted to thank you for it. Or I may have seen something you said on the forums and sent you a PM.

Feel free to let me know if you have a great product to sell, a good idea for us, or think something at Mp3Car could be improved. You can always post an idea for the store in the Customer Service Forum or the forums for new product suggestions , and for ideas and changes to the forums there is the subforum, called Suggestions/Comments or you can email store@mp3car.com.

Air Soft Flexible 85-Key USB/PS/2 Silicone Keyboard

Posted by armine in Product News

airsoft

The Air Soft Flexible Keyboard has been added to the Mp3Car Store.  Nick suggested adding the Air Soft to the store because it is durable, flexible and can hold up to tough environments, and really cheap!  Just beware that this keyboard requires a relatively flat surface for use. For more information, see the Air Soft Product Description.

The New Mp3Car Blog

Posted by armine in In and Around Mp3Car

The Mp3Car Store is launching a blog on the mp3car.com homepage to provide more up to date information to Mp3Car supporters. To kick off the blog, each day a different member of the Mp3Car team will introduce themselves and blog a bit on what it is they do every day at Mp3Car.

Why a Blog?
So much goes on behind the screen. With a blog, the Mp3Car team can let people know what is going on, as it happens, and provide a better sense of what Mp3Car is all about all in one central location.

What can you expect to read about?

There will be 5 main tags to start:

  1. In and Around Mp3Car– posts under this tag will let people know what is going on in and around the Mp3Car office.
  2. Mp3Car Forum News - this section will provide information on forum development, promotions, and members.
  3. Product News - any and all information related to particular products will be provided such as product launches, updates on stock, and product retirement
  4. Tech Support – this section will provide posts on tech support tips and work-arounds as well as examples of how we have learned what to do or, in some cases, what not to do. There will also be suggestions regarding where to find technical information in general.
  5. Mp3Car Store Projects – this section will provide pictures and descriptions of projects and answer questions such as, what was the Mp3Car team doing last spring for a few days instead of shipping orders?

Why not just use the forums?

The forums are massive and full of important information, however, often we are answering the same question a few times in different forums, and people still feel left out. We will continue to provide information within the Mp3Car Forums, but the blog will be an easy way to get up to speed on what is new, or what is going on with a product. We will also be able to let people know more about ourselves as well as the people and companies that are helping to grow this hobby.
