What you have, the touchscreen isn't going to be able to control the PC.
Hey guys.........I just bought a Dual XDVD710 touchscreen as I am trying to build a Jeeputer. When I opened the box, I found that there were no real connections for computer interface, just a bunch of standard A/V cables and two serial cables (meant to couple to XM radio and an Ipod). I was wondering if any of you have successfully hooked up your lappys/pc's through a serial port to a touchscreen. Thanks in advance for any help (and sorry for the newb question!)
I think you're confusing things a bit. The serial port is going to be the way for the touchscreen to talk to the computer. Ex: *tap* I'M HERE *tap* I'M HERE *tap tap* Double Click
I doubt that XM radios and Ipods can interface with a serial port....
That should clear it up a bit....
Serial is just a different way of connecting things, but its sitll a computer interface..
USB ? USB means Universal SERIAL Bus.

Everything I have found relating to the "Dual XDVD710" says nothing about a touchscreen. Even if it does have one, its not going to work to control a PC, like Darq already said. It's basically a headunit/dvd player.
And to andy.. I'm quite sure DP is well versed as to what serial ports as well as what USB interfaces are capable of.
How am I confusing things?
I am completely unconfused as far as your situation. The unit you have will not be able to control your PC.
Actually, they can... Well, at least the XM. Do some searching.I doubt that XM radios and Ipods can interface with a serial port....
Drawing comparisons to an all-in-one video player headunit and an XM unit doesn't help your case at all. That should clear it up a bit....
Yeah. So?Serial is just a different way of connecting things, but its sitll a computer interface..
Yeah. So?USB ? USB means Universal SERIAL Bus.
Yeah. So?</noob>![]()
Woah woah woah...... I was trying to help out the first person. I didn't know that what he had was just a dvd player. I read the topic "Is it possible to hook up a touchscreen through serial port" and responded to that pretty much.
Deflate your ego. This is a help board.
You need a touch screen with VGA or DVI port, otherwise there is no way you can connect it to a PC.
I think what OP has is a DVD player with touch screen. It is not designed to work with computers.
