Microsoft really is pathetic. It's been years and I can't believe they still haven't released drivers for PC. I gave up a long time ago and bought a logitech wireless USB keyboard. I'm glad I did. A little pricey but too bad, thats money that Microsoft could have gotten. Lazy a$$es.

Seriously? Lazy? I love my car computer quite a lot and I would love to see a driver for this, but c'mon. You're talking about such a tiny nitch here.

You expect them to write a driver for devices that 99.9% of the time have keyboards attached. Seriously... How many people do you think would actually use the chatpad on a PC?

    1) Car PC people...
    2) ...

Yeah. I can see why it doesn't exist.

all my tv's have computers on them. they get movies, music and recorded tv from one source... and they play games too. they all use xbox controllers, and if these chatpads would work it would be completely awesome. right now i use bluetooth and rf mini keyboards, they are nice but the chatpad is perfect in every way. its like a cellphone keyboard that perfectly fits into your entertainment system... it couldnt be better and its amazing nobody has hacked this yet.

Here are my current favorite non-ms xbox 360 controller drivers:

    http://www.katch.ne.jp/~morii/driver/x360wc/index.html
    http://www.katch.ne.jp/~morii/driver/x360c/index.html

The separate the triggers into separate axis, and allow the center button to be used as well.

The also appear to be updated fairly frequently.

Perhaps someone could communicate with this individual about implementing chatpad support.

    Continuation of development XBCCP

We can do two things -> continue moaning, and wait till MS never release that driver

    Or we build it together

If you decide to go for the first option, i recommend and ask you to leave this thread for what it is. For the reason that you are not contributing

for those who agree that we should put on a joint effort into getting this to work...

Where are we now, for the record:
    - forum user 'Grumble' collected data with a hardware (logical) analyser, that shows what is going on during insertion, handshake, setup, keypress of the device:
xbox360 chatpad, awsome backlit mini keyboard

-Made a milestone, and got the backlight to work, and even retrieve a single keypress.

user dwomac gave he's response, and tried to decipher the log and communicate with the controller / touchpad (as well from Linux?)

xbox360 chatpad, awsome backlit mini keyboard

in he's response he mentioned that on some point the host(driver)-device could be doing authentication trough hashes.

I seriously doubt this is the case (see Control Transfers : The bigger picture @ http://www.beyondlogic.org/usbnutshell/usb4.htm#Control ) and believe this is just part of the initialization process. What you did not mention is whether you took into account that this control-state is all latency based (its very precise - see usb specifications at usb.org)..

In my opinion these attempts are 'too' low-level.

Take a look at redcloud's xbox-360 controller driver, they manage to use it properly (to full extend) with a HID minidriver they wrote, and communicate with the device trough the Windows usbhid driver. (see XBCD_driver.c > topic 1, http://redcl0ud.1.forumer.com/index.php?showforum=2 )

Im quiet sure that if we would communicate with the controller in a similar way (let Windows HID class handle initialization itself), and try to read data from the controller (via FDO), like in XBCD_control.c / XBCDReadData for example

We would have a much bigger chance to get it working.

Even while there is Windows driver from Microsoft, we most likely cant use that - because only one Windows driver can control a device. (Thats how its works, afaik). So using RedCl0uds source would definitely be good starting point!?

    > big thanks to Grumbel for he's efforts, and everbody else contributing

    - to be continued..

The creator of these drivers replied to me today stating he is willing to research a chatpad implemetation, though he said it may take quite a few months based on his busy schedule.

That wasn't meant to be rude, just silly. =)
