I didn't know about that but it's nice to know. Also worth knowing I doubt I'd win it

I'm a hardware/firmware engineer with an interest in using the Xbox360 Gamepad + it's peripherals (headset and chatpad) as a generic input device, hence my interest. It goes without saying however that my end goal would allow someone with an interest in writing Windows/Linux/Whatever device drivers with the knowledge to create them.

To be honest, rather than "hard cash" what I'd really look for is "old wired 360 gamepads". It's already obvious to me that there are different versions available. For example, I have a recently purchased gamepad that appears to report itself as 1.1.4 and has a different endpoint arrangement from the 1.1 version Grumble got his .ufo data dump for some time ago. I doubt that the versions would affect things too much, the USB Configuration Descriptor outlines each versions requirements just fine. But having the various versions availlble for me to test is worth more than hard cash

I know no one is here for the money :-) but those small donations is a way of acknowledging the efforts made by the people.

    Hi Guys,

I've been following this thread for a while and many others across the web hoping for a chatpad driver. I have found some interesting (to my non-technical standard) things on my searches.

    Check out the following links:

Japanese site with drivers, not sure
    http://www.katch.ne.jp/~morii/driver/x360wc/index.html

    Chatpad disassembled
    http://nuxx.net/gallery/v/acquired_s...x_360_chatpad/

This one may have been posted before
    http://tattiebogle.net/index.php/Pro...ller/OsxDriver

This one is the latest and my favourite, could be for Linux though
    http://github.com/Grumbel/xboxdrv/blob/master/PROTOCOL

Anyway, I have very little experience regarding programming and no idea about drivers.
So this is really just to try and keep this thread alive.

    Cheers and good luck

i DL'd the japanese package and translated. it's just the driver for the wireless reciever to the best of my knowledge... leaving us right where we started.

the 3rd link was posted in a previous page, it is exclusively for OSX

and the 4th link is in relation to the original xbox controller, not the 360 with chatpad.

Sorry i'm just doing the simplification work so others can focus on the driver.

the contest needs more donations. this is obviously not a simple task. if anything, it would be nice for the contest to get enough publicity that microsoft takes notice and just whips out a pc driver in a matter of days.

I was checking the chatpad manual and I noticed something interesting.

It states that if you have chatpad connection issues, you should update your console. If you are an offline user then all you have to do is download the update and burn to disk.

Surely this file would have some driver information embedded in it for the chatpad.

Below is the info from the manifest file found in the update:

I have decided to just post anything I find that may be of interest regarding the Chatpad driver.

A guy is trying to create a windows 7 driver(link below), pretty recent posts. 1st and last post the are most interesting.

Just a quick little update: I did now try to write a kernel driver for Linux and a driver based on libusb-1.0, but I again ran into the same issues as before with the old libusb, after the first few commands the chatpad either dies or stops reporting keypresses. Source code is floating around in the xboxdrv git repository for those interested.

The protocol itself seems to be for most part figured out, but why the chatpad dies I am still at a loss.

I didn't had any luck with contacting the MacOSX driver author either.
