    Using I-PAC for SWC

Alright I'm trying to figure out how to connect my steering wheel controls to control my carpc. I'm looking at using the I-PAC because it seems to be a good value (I-PAC VE is $35 shipped) but I haven't found a whole lot about using the I-pac for SWC.

I'm just wondering if anyone could tell me if this will work for me. I have a 2000 grand prix that uses a single wire with varying voltage with each button press (8 total). Does anyone know if this will work?

the i-pac uses a single ground and basically closes a circuit to emulate button presses that you program with the included software. I don't think the varying voltage will work. If you could get a wire run from each button it could work.

You might try and take a look at the steering wheel controls. If you could run wires to each button it would work. The wires could be tiny as there's really no real voltage running through the wires. I used an ethernet cable to run wires to the buttons i hooked up. Might be worth a try.

No I took out my HU and no you don't need one to make the swc work. I'm not sure the type of wire that your car uses but the fusion brain reads about everything. I ended up purchasing one. I'm still trying to work out some kinks in it but it works pretty good.

Your other option would be to use something like this http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...127SWIX&tp=476 along with a windows remote/dongle and go that way. Basically that device thats the button press from the steering wheel and converts it to an IR signal that you program it with, so with any media remote for windows, you can remap all your steering wheel controls to controls on the remote control, hide the remote dongle behind the dash as well as the tramsmitter from the PAC SWI-X so no one can see it and go that route. Other option is make the IR sensor visible, the PAC transmitter placed in front of it and be able to use the remote you buy with the dongle as well so someone say in the back seat could use the remote to navigate the carpc as well.
