Question lilliput 629 touchscreen -- Stylus only or is my finger broken?

Newbie working on my first car pc, and I (foolishly?) bought a 7" Lilliput 629.

Could someone please verify for me that their touchscreen works with a touch of a fingertip?

Am I stupid for assuming that a touchscreen shouldn't need a stylus?

I thought my touchscreen was broke as there was no response when using my finger. Then I used a stylus and it worked. I then found out that if I use my fingernail (not the edge, but the flatter part), it also works. It really takes the coolness factor down a notch or two when you have to grab a stylus or flip your hand around to use your fingernail to use the touchscreen

From what info I have been able to find, there isn't any adjustment for sensitivity.

Can anyone recommend a monitor based on a better touchscreen interface?

    Thanks.

(as a side note -- I usually can't get the POS touchscreens at work to read my finger presses either -- so maybe it is just me...)

Touchscreens DO work with your finger.

    Here are some tips:

    -Press harder
    -Calibrate your screen
-Tap the button with top of your nail (meaning tap the top of your fingernail to the button/screen as if you were pressing it with your finger)

Your screen is probably working fine, you may just need to get used to it.

Actually, I tried pressing hard. Much harder than should be required. Hard enough to get the little wave effects from the underlying LCD panel. It simply won't register my fingertip presses. Maybe my fingers are too fat and that confuses the touchscreen controller (sees it as too many inputs?). I dunno.

    -Calibrate your screen
That was the first thing I did once the OS was running.

-Tap the button with top of your nail (meaning tap the top of your fingernail to the button/screen as if you were pressing it with your finger)
That appears to be the best/only option with this touchscreen and my fingers.

Bummer. I'd rather find a touchscreen that works the way I think it should, rather than get used to this one. It just seems a bit cheesy. Maybe I expect too much, but I don't think so.

Thanks for the suggestions and the verification that it is supposed to work with fingertips.

You shouldn't have to press that hard. When you calibrate your screen, do you have to press really hard too?

No. Actually pressing that hard does nothing. Light or heavy fingertip touches apparently don't register. I only tried pushing that hard once out of frustration, but it made no difference.

A relatively light touch with a stylus or back of fingernail works fine though.

Something doesn't sound right with your touch screen. I'd get in touch with the manufacturer and see what they say. Hopefully you can get a replacement if need be.

Get a tiny fingertip stylus. One that fits over your fingertip, and has a tiny point at the end and wear it whenever you are in the car.

Have you gotten someone else to try touching the screen? Sounds stupid I know, but some people just aren't very capacitave. I have heard of cases where people can't operate touch-sensitive devices because they are... too well grounded or something. It happens.

If you cant use POS touchscreens either, then it may be you. Not saying that in a bad way, but there are people who may have differences in their body that makes electrical devices funky. I knew someone who could not wear a watch on their wrist because they had some wierd magnetic field that would mess the watch up.
You may have something like that... Just a thought.
I havent had any problems with my 629 yet, I can use just about anything to register hits on it. I normally use a pen, with the ball point retracted, for those really tight spots in the corners where my fat fingers cant get to it.
