I have a problem and I try to find a solution.

I have a Toyota Corolla model 2003(pre facelift). I have a car dvd gps that support steering wheel control. My car has steering wheel controls but they works via the AVC-Lan and not with the resistor type interface.
So I had 2 ideas.

1) Can I build a steering wheel control with the resistor type interface? I found the circuit below :

or 2) Can I build a steering wheel control and work wit IR? I can learn the signals from the remote control of the system and then I can use it directly to the IR of the system.

Please help!
