    I have a complete set!

    • Remote control for all the major functions, via an irman that controls an application directly (instead of running through girder)
    • Fellowes PS2 touchpad mouse in the centre console for mousing duties (rarely used)
    • USB mini keyboard in the back of the seat-pocket for emergencies (connects to USB hub in the centre console)

I reserve all rights in connection to each post I author, without exception.

    Maybe that might help?

I use touch screen, RF mouse, and IRman remote. I made the buttons big so it's easier to touch the buttons.

MP3Dub, where is the touchpad in the first picture? Am i just blind? or is it a stealth install? If its actually part of the steering wheel i am very impressed : )

It actually (as many of the things in my install, which is one of the reasons i love my car so much ) happened to fit perfectly on the bottom lip of the gauge cluster. Its dirrectly below the speedo (center gauge) dyed blacked to match, and it fits snugly under the trip odometer reset button.

I use a Palm Vx (Well, WILL whenever I get it fixed) with a USB - Serial adapter and Jukebox/PalmAmp software to control winamp. This was the best option for me because I had to keep every thing 100% removable and it is less of a distraction while driving. I had a version of this setup with my first carputer that died a full 30 minutes after I got it going.

Comp. Specs:Shuttle SS40G, Athlon XP 1700+, 256MB DDR, 40GB HD, Belkin Desktop 802.11b card (good range), SB 128 sound (onboard is a bit noisy), DVD ROM
Toshiba 100CS laptop, P75 40mb ram, 550MB HD, Megahertz LAN/modem PC card, modified to run off 12VDC

Other stuff:Generic USB hub & USB to serial adapters, BS2SX power control system w/battery buffer, Jazz 300W Inverter, FM Modulator, Palm Vx, & GPS

Status: 80% complete (Almost done with the controle boxes)

I would say that's a bit awkward to use while driving.. but you really shouldn't be using it while driving anyway I suppose

Yeah, that was part of my reasoning for putting it were it was. I could have also put in more obtrusivly on the knee brace, but it looks good where it is, and i shouldnt use anything other than the ir remote at speed.

Hey are you guys having problems with the home brew IRman compliant PIC devices? I've found the DSE ones have an annoying plastic shield on the top of them (which is supposed to increase it's receptive angle), and it stuffs up the signal sometimes..., and Jaycar's ones are unbuffered so you need to an additional IC to buffer the signal.

In my setup i have a Swann USB Keypad, and i'm using DirectInput to talk to it. Unfortunately it ends up being a keyboard device, and it's not possible to distinguish keypresses on the keypad and on the keyboard >_<, so i've set my app to always stay on the foreground, but at least with DirectInput i can accept the nonstandard keys like play, pause, stop on the keypad.
