Another option would to get the developer of VoiceControl to continue work on the project...
I've been thinkin'. (If everyone looks outside towards the west they can see the smoke.)
PCs are powerful machines designed to make our lives more convenient and entertaining. Cars are too. The problem we are having as lovers of both, is when we combine the two we inject a certain level of danger. We have all tried to mitigate this risk in various ways:
- Touchscreens
- Trackballs
- Touchpads
- Space Nav/Powermate
Though helpful, they still have not completely solved the problem of being able to control our PCs while keeping our hands on the wheel and our eyes on the road. Voice Control is by far the best option, but the price of the software and the time it takes to configure does not make it the most convenient.
My idea is to reverse Voice Control. What if the makers of FEs programmed there software to give an audible confirmation of functions? As you ran the mouse pointer over various buttons, the FE would say what the button is (once; when you moved the pointer off the button and back on it will re-id the button). True it may get annoying at times, but it could really help those that use trackballs and touch pads; even touchscreens. It could be programmed to turn on at certain speeds (say 20 mph) and off at say (5 mph) so you dont have to use it at stoplights.
It is a strech but it just crossed my mind I thought I would throw it out there.

OK guys I am a noob.I did not know there was an actual FE software product called "Voice Control". I was talking about voice control software in general. I also saw on Centrafuse's website that they are studying my idea (or interpretation of it, since they thought of it first) with Georgia Tech University.
I was just thinking out loud I guess, because I really need I/O control so easy my wife could do it blindfolded.

they need mind control RR. i listen to music way too loud to even think of putting a microphone in the car.

Thats why RRVoiceControl has input for a steering wheel button or other button or touch hidden label area on screen to lower audio to zero first.

I am in the process of writing a control front end for my CarPC. This is a great idea, especially when incorporated with the dual zone climate controls announcing the Mode and Temperature as the controls are agjusted. Steering wheel MODE control remapping functions announced when selecting is another that would work extremely well and avoids taking eyes of the road. I will add it into mine; sometimes it’s a simple way of enhancing a user interface that is often overlooked![]()
