Thread: Steering wheel remote controller USB interface - CarPC JoyCon EX

I've got the original JoyCon (not ex) and I've tapped into the factory wiring for the steering wheel controls. The unit works well when it is connected to the carpc but if you have to take the carpc out for whatever reason I lose all control of the headunit (ie I can't change tracks, radio stations etc).
I've also noticed that if I leave my radio on and turn the car off, when I go to start the car again the volume goes up automatically to maximum volume. There's a bit of a delay as my carpc boots up and I think it's during this time the a resistance is being transmitted that matches the volume up signal. I just turn my radio off whenever I turn off the car now.

I just got a Sony RM-X5 controls. I to would love to use this. The fact that you can use 2 buttons to do one thing doubles the amount of this device. If I can figure how to get rid of the stupid IR thingy, since I bought the wrong RM-X series stalk, then I will go with this device!

Has anyone installed one of these in a Ridgeline? I have a 2006 and have not a clue as to where to look for the wires to connect the joycon.

Does the software have the ability to toggle mute an audio source such as line in?

I'm not saying it's the best or cheapest way (this depends on your car specifics and the hardware involved), but I used a PAC-Audio SWI-PS to interface with the Joycon EX. The SWI-PS outputs variable resistance, so it does work with the Joycon. Again, I would do some research as the PAC-Audio device may not be needed if your steering wheel controls natively output variable resistance.

As far as muting line in, the Joycon Explorer software will emulate any keyboard shortcut keypress you like. So you could create a .bat file with something like nircmd.exe mutesysvolume 1 "line in" (http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/nircmd.html) and then create a windows shortcut to the .bat file. Lastly, right click on the shortcut to the .bat file, select Properties and then change the shortcut key to the same keyboard sequence you created inside of Joycon Explorer. FYI: I've never even installed the nircmd utility and never tried this technique, as Ride Runner handles the audio switching for me when I use my steering wheel controls.

Wow Challenged...that's quite an interesting solution. I'll try that option when I get home this afternoon.

It supports from Windows XP.
