You need to find a wiring diagram for your vehicle. You would most likely tap into the factory wiring harness that plugs into your radio. You should look for "remote control" or something similar labeled in the diagram. There should be a positive and ground wire.

Well, I have Been looking for a way to set the system to "listening mode" for voice recognition commands.

After some googling around, I found a Sony Stalk RM-X2S on eBay and purchased it. That led me back to here for a solution to get it interfaced with the CarPC. So, I just bought a CarPC JoyCOn EX.

I can't wait for everything to get here and get it all set up

I can't find any other reasonably USB steering wheel control interface so I think I'll buy this for my car PC soon. And since my Lilliput 629GL does not have an auto-switching feature for a reversing camera, I use the JoyCon to switch the screen view.

Then again, I might be upgrading my LCD later this year ...

My monitor does not have a reverse switch either. I don't know what front end you are using, but in Ride Runner I have the camera controlled by software. Using a Fusion brain tied to the reverse switch tells Ride Runner to switch to the skin with my camera embedded in it.

I personally like the fact that it does not switch to another input mode. I still have access to the music controls, as well as the distance to object behind the car from my backup sensor all on the screen at the same time.

I am sure this can easily be done with other front ends as well.

Thanks for that. I'm using Centrafuse. I think it will work fine with it, as long as the JoyCon utility is running in the background.

Interested in this device for steering wheel control. One question:

Does the device need the software running, or just to initially setup the resistance values to the HID keyboard strokes/commands?

I ask this question as all my car PC inputs/apps housekeeping is acheived using Girder, and I would like to continue the use of a single application for input>action assignments. (one less app running).

I would presume I would lose some of the extra application functionality that's "off the peg", but again, I would do this with Girder.

I also have the U-HID device for the car (excallent device for encoders), which again is a HID device, and only needs software to program the key assignments.

Basical feature work without PC software(JoyCon Explorer) running.
So these function works on Linux too.
-keyboard, HID multimedia keys(system volume...), short/long buttons.

Some feature need PC software(JoyCon Explorer) running.
-Preset change by Preset up and down buttons.
-App Link(application launches and popup with preset changing)

If you don't need to change the button function(or setting of buttons), you don't need PC software running.

hey extraaha -
i saw there is a remote wakeup from sleep, however my laptop's battery retains like 2 minutes of juice before it dies (so i hibernate instead of sleep)...

If i have this plugged into a Powered USB hub, does it still detect clicks to control the LED's?

I have a phone cord wired to my laptop's power button, so it'd be sweet if i could toss a relay in the LED port & short (turn on laptop) when I hold a steering wheel button for X seconds..

any thoughts on that?
