OMG, Thats scary..... In the process he'll probably kill everyone that comes near the car.

Yeah - I love the RF beaming - it reminds me of how microwave ovens were discovered (allegedly). And of a recent ad for engineers to design an energy device that captured GSM (cell phone) radiation....

But if you use Tesla's system, you could have free airconditioning as well. And maybe eliminate obstacles in car parks, and roads.

I just liked the idea. I was wondering if anyone else had tried doing. Soundman, let me know how it goes. I had a tablet that I cant fix, so the idea comes from there. A real tablet with winxp, not an android os. I thought that having a wireless input device with it's own screen could be beneficial. I'm sure there are people who don't think so and wouldn't even think of trying it but sometimes novelty has it's own weight.

HiJack, what happened that was disastrous?

i am not even sure if i am going to go through with it--at this point, i am reconsidering scrapping the idea-- hijacks unfortunate experience, and the fact that the entire project would have a roughly $250 price tag for something that i don't necessarily need, and might not even use much once complete...this is where the lifespan of li-po packs come in-- i might only use it a couple of times before i need to replace the pack..

honestly, car projects are starting to become less important at the moment-- i have a company car, so my personal vehicle (the one with the carpc) has ended up sitting in the garage for weeks, even months at a time..

there is also the estimated size-- with the wireless hub, and battery, using my current idea, the screen assembly could end up being as much as 3-4" thick... on the back of a 7" screen, that is not something that could be easily handled..

optical--(i realize your being sarcastic, but i am going to approach it constructively) i didn't know that they finally started producing those chips--i remember reading about the military doing testing on the idea a couple of years ago, but don't remember much about it finally reaching production.

while i am not sure that this is the best application of this, i think that it is a great start to getting devices that are not only getting data from "the cloud," but also power!!

I still don't get the point. Is that to use a 7" laying around? I would just stuck it into a headrest instead.

If not, isn't it better to just buy an old used tablet PC on ebay? Or that wal-mart Android tablet, there was a thread about it somewhere?

I still don't get the purpose of this, sorry.

    It is merely its novelty.
Like converting a petrol engine to diesel I guess - those with the time, money or tools enjoy that sort of stuff.

something like that-- but isn't the concept similar installing computers in cars? of course we could all use headunits or ipods..

for me, the wireless screen idea was because no one else has done it, and there was a high chance that i would have been the only one with it. but there is a reason for no one else doing it-- it has a high cost--roughly $200-300--, with cheaper options--remote access, or ad-hoc--which can be much cheaper or free.

the reason i think i am going to give this up (good luck khisanthax!) is because i don't think that i will use it enough to justify the cost-- if i went to car/electronic shows all the time, or was constantly using remote access to control my carpc, then the cost wouldn't be so bad..

Ah, got it. Now that puts a whole different spin on the things. Guess my mind is not as open as I'd like to think!

    Sorry Soundman.
I see the wireless touchscreen and installing computers in cars as I see diesel to petrol conversions as installing engines in cars.

If you thinks it's worth charging a battery and lugging that around etc rather than using a cable, fine. As I said, it has its uses.
But also as I implied, there are much better ways of achieving the same.

It's like the guy that upgraded his old XT or AT ('86 or '286) to run a MUCH later windoze version (NT? W2k?). Sure - he did it, and he only spent >$15,000 for some huge power hungry lug that ran at however many ten's of megaherts (10's not 100's; & mega - not giga!).
But what practicality did it offer? I'd rather have spent $2,000 on a multi-hundred megahertz machine running XP.

I'm one that says anything is possible. And doable. But its practicality is another thing entirely.

But you can do it. And sell a kit for well over $100 to others that want to do it. (And from my experience, there'll be heaps of suckers for that!)

But what you said is what we have been saying

    Hence we agree.

The only thing missing is the added weight...
    Tablets are getting very cheap....

If anything, just buy an old pocket PC with wifi and use some type of remote desktop software. Now you have a small long lasting device. Its so small it can fit in your pocket too.
