wireless mouse as a steering wheel remote

I am in the process of building up a CarPC running centrafuse 3. My car didn't come with steering wheel controls so i am thinking of hacking and installing a mini wireless mouse into the steering wheel. The mouse scroller can be used for the volume using a program called Volumouse, I have tried it and it works great. For the previous/next track functions i would like to use the left/right mouse clicks. I have no idea how to implement this and i cannot find a program that can do this for me.

Not sure if this is possible but i figured this is the best place to ask

are you going to need a mouse or you have a touchscreen. what would you want the right and left click buttons to do? you could always implement a usb touchpad on the wheel. and still hack a mouse for the scroll whel for the volume control.

also what make and model car do you have. most cars possibly higher models of your car do have steering wheel controls. usually plug right into the cable reel. you might be able to find one used and interface your left and right buttons from the mouse that way.

I want to use the left and right clicks to skip tracks forward and back. I have a touch screen so i wouldn't need a mouse. I have a 2005 VW mk1 golf. In South Africa they continued to make the mk1 golf untill last year. Although it has a new interior, none of them have multifunction steering wheels.

You can use autohotkey to set the right click and left click, I use that for mine, I use the scroll wheel to move my mouse on the screen...
look on google for the program, and it is free!

I saw that program but i have zero programing skills. My skills are all mechanical!! Could you possibly give me your script just for the left and right mouse clicks or show me how to create the script in autohotkeys?? I know i got to assign the the clicks to a keyboard press but i have no idea how. I have successfully implemented volumouse to use the wheels scroll for volume

ah perfect, the link doesn't work but i'm guessing you pointing me X-mouseButtonControl. It works great, exactly what i was looking for!!

I have less than zero programming skills....but I was able to piece together some other scripts, and make it work,(I just got lucky)...
Anyway looks like you found a solution, I can remember trying out that program and for some reason I did work for my situation, I can't remember why, it may have been that I wanted to be able to use two mouses...
