I got the $7 creative remote & reciever.. It's a cheap alternative to the IRman.. it doesn't work with every remote, but if you find a remote that works with it, you are golden. Besides, it comes with a credit card size remote with plenty of buttons.

I have found that my Onkyo reciever & dvd player remotes work with it.. I have a universal remote that i use for my reciever, dvd player, playstation and desktop at home. it's the pleican brand remote, and it works great, with loads of buttons to make use of.

I think pretty much any remote that will work with a reciever or dvdplayer will work, it seems they tend to use different frequencies or something (I really have no idea what the reason is, all I know is that they work!)

so for $7 you have a cheap reciever, if you need a fancier remote, you can easily "upgrade"

I use girder with the reciever.

Thanks for moving the thread, that was totally MY BAD!!

Anyway after doing some research last night, I found a couple of sites that sell the remote software and receiver, I would have to supply the remote. Looks extremely tempting. Any recommendations? I would like to go with quality rather than the "cheap" way. I saw some serial and usb recievers. The thing is I have to buy the remote, I would not want to use a TV remote in my car lol That would be out of hand.

Ill keep looking around. Thanks for them links.

I don't know what more you are going to get for spending $30 more you have a reciever, and a remote to use with it.

So true. hahahah we'll see. What do you recommend? USB or serial? I personally prefer serial, becuase of lengths of the cable. I would have to be longer than six feet.
