using remote wonder as a mouse

I've install my ATI RW on a VIA EPIA-M10000 motherboard and I would like to use it for the mouse on that computer. The problem is that if I boot up the computer without a regular PS2 mouse attached, the RW won't work. No mouse pointer will even show up on the screen.

I'm guessing that it doesnt' detect the RW as a regular mouse and just assumes that there isn't a mouse attached. Has anyone tried to use this remote with a VIA board? Any ideas on how to fix this? I'm using RW drivers version 1.5

I have the same remote, but I never thought about testing it like that. That is going to suck really bad.

I think someone better send ATI an email requesting a driver update to correct this problem.

It turns out that the mouse portion of the remote IS working, but the cursor is not visable on the screen unless a regular mouse is plugged in. So if you're really good at guessing where to click, it might just work out for you!

I called ATI and one of the support guys tried it out on their computer right then. He reported that it worked fine, so maybe the issue is with the VIA board?

Anyways, it worked fine with everything else so I guess I'm happy. I might just try and find an old PS2 mouse to plug in and keep it happy!?

Yeah I figured I could do that, but come-on it's going to look like crap. I've got enough things plugged into this thing I don't need the extra clutter. I'm trying to keep it clean and professional.

I'll just use the pre-programmed buttons on the remote so I won't need the mouse feature or get a touch-screen monitor.

I think the issue is probably with the VIA board. I did however hook up an old mouse and hid it under the seat just so that I could use the remote.

This remote, how easy is it to use as a mouse? Looks quite tricky - I was looking at a Wireless Trackball.. but this would be very cool I think because can't you bind buttons to keys and stuff?
