I also like the feel of xbox thumbsticks more than anything else I've tried in the past.
    Wow, talk about bulky.

While I'd love to use linux, I realize I'll have a lot easier time accomplishing everything I want under windows. But that's usually how it goes, trade off reliability, stability, open source, security, and full customization for compatibility. In reality I'll probably end up triple booting linux, macOS and windows though. From there I'll try out all the front-ends I can get my hands on or possibly create my own.
I know I'm showing my age, but RideRunner on Windows XP is damn stable. RRCode is about the most robust and customizable skinning and programming for a front-end available.

When you get started, open a new thread in the worklogs and take lots of pictures.

And I'm one that likes simplicity. (But most importantly, functionality.)

Yes Gismo, I was indeed complimenting you.

Stop here if I confuse things (LOL?).
I meant that I dislike bling etc etc and that even includes flashy HU displays. I like my cockpit night (fast) driving. I have minimal bling like a blue LED digital voltmeter hacked into my speedo console, but that is totally functional (IMO essential), and maybe a bit cool (it certainly impresses others). And maybe one day I'll refit my old LED digital speedo as a HUD.

But I have seen posters (or posers?) wanting or having joystick etc, but really, how gawdy is that?

Then you come along with a pretty good looking joystick suggestion...

And SINCE my interruption aka Reply above, I've been wondering if I could make said joystick a slip-on onto my gearstick knob so it is easy to remove when I'm in mountain-mode (aka rally mode or goat-track mode or any other time my gf complains). It's not like I'm ever inspired - that's just too rare an event.

    So, thank-you for the inspiration!

Are you just trying to start a fight? You really needed to bold that and increase the font size? Grow up. I just have different preferences and I complimented you on your application.

As for the bulky comment, I don't intend to slap an entire xbox controller on the shifter obviously, I was merely going to use 1 thumbstick.

If you wanted to do a really clean install you could tie your led lighting to the dimmer for the cockpit lighting. Then you could control how "bling" your interior was.

Anyway ya, I could see having the joystick as being an excellent input device, but its just not my taste. He drives an auto, which makes actually using the shifter fairly seldom. Me having a stick means using it very often and having a bunch of buttons on top is going to be annoying and lead to a lot of false input.

So... I got the truck. Started my build thread here. As I've said, itll be a while until I get to this project, got a lot of other things to work on first.
