25Ft was overkill. My thinking was plenty to spare If I want to move the system around later and only pennies more. Now, I wish I chose the 15ft cable.

The problem I'm having is stability. It does work, but sometime causes windows to fail when loading drivers. It doesn't fail gracefully, like touchscreen not found error, but instead causes a blue screen or keeps windows from loading altogether.

That gives me 3 options:
1. Shorter Serial Cable (15ft)
2. USB to Serial Adapter and 10-15ft USB Extension
3. RJ45 Adapters and 15ft cable

I guess I was hoping somebody else was running a 25ft or longer extension, and that they knew some magical solution to make it work. Time to price out the above options instead.

Thanks. If you got 20ft to work, I hope a 15ft cable will do the trick for me. It is close to a power cable and vga cables, so I may need something with good shielding.

The quickest solution eluded me.

I chopped off about 7-8Ft of the serial cable. So far so good, but only time will tell if the problem is solved.

Twisted pair cable is for differential signalling. The noise is induced equally in both cables, and the differential amplifiers at each end remove the noise. You can't get this benefit from standard RS232. You'd have to move to something like RS422 or RS485.

Unfortunately, even after chopping the cable, the problem persists. I tried an old 10ft serial modem cable, but it still fails to boot occasionally.

Moose uses a 10ft extension, so I don't see why it won't work for me. I thought it might be drivers, so I reinstalled them. But, its still no go.

Possibly a defective touch screen controller or could the touchscreen controller be failing due to heat?

Yes, it does work in the car at times flawlessly and always worked fine inside the house without the extension.

I've tried switching back to the older driver that came with the screen instead of the one posted on the website. Its working atm with the 10ft serial extension. But because the problem is sporadic, its hard to tell if the problem is fixed. I will only know the next time it fails...
