You could disconnect the buttons from the Canbus system and connect it to the joycon or you could listen to the canbus and have that control things.
Has anyone managed to successfully implement steering wheel controls in an Audi with can-bus, using something like the Joycon? I spent some time searching, and found a couple posts for VW/Audi, but nothing indicating anyone had managed to implement them.
While not the end of the world, I would like to be able to use them.
Thanks.

What I am looking into first, is to see if one of the adapters available to retain steering wheel controls with an aftermarket head unit can be used. I think they plug into the existing harness, intercept the canbus signal and convert it to something that can be read by aftermarket head unit's.
That should work. I saw a post where someone used a Pac steering wheel adapter with a joycon just in the way you described.
Picked up a Joycon, but, while it worked for a minute. For some reason it's now quit working, the test to see if its faulty came back negative. So I know that is good, but I am not sure why all of a sudden it is not recognizing any input from my steering wheel. Really odd.
