    Recommended usb keyboard button emulator?

    Hi,

my first post on MP3Car, such a great resource

I'm almost at the point of installing my CarPC in a 2006 Mazda 3 MPS, consisting of a mini ITX setup, Carnetix PSU and 7" touch panel. The touch panel is the most interesting as I'm housing it in a flip-up housing that previously held a "Chinese GPS" unit that proved largely useless for my needs.

    Link to unit:

Under the screen there are six physical buttons I'd like to utilise under Windows. I'm happy enough to wire up a custom PCB with proper switch placement but am not sure on what sort of device I should use to emulate key presses. Would that be something like an iPac ($$) or is there a considerably cheaper option out there?

    Thanks

    JB

i have one of these for my mame machine: http://www.ultimarc.com/ipac1.html

no reason you cant utilise this in the car, standard cat5 cable works great for wire runs if you dont have room available in the area where the buttons are. i picked mine up from these guys http://ozstick.com.au/

I already have the Arduino Uno R3 and nano, and really want to utilise these for steering wheel resistive ladders, etc. If anyone has the Arduino code I would be really grateful .

    Thanks in advance,
    Dave

No Probs. I realised that but thought I ask since someone had already replied with it as a possible solution .

    Maybe I'll get lucky....

    Cheers,

You could always use a joycon I've got one for my steering wheel and it works very well.it can cope with about 28 physical buttons and its pretty simple to setup. http://rcjoycon.com/base_3//menu_10....m_board_idx=16
I would also be interested in the code for the arduino if anyone has some info.

Thanks all for the tips - I recently built up a cocktail arcade cabinet using an Ultimarc JAMMA adapter, so funny how the CarPC project uses the same sort of stuff Another utility found online remaps keyboard commands to joystick buttons - I've a few generic USB gamepads which might work (I've only about six buttons I want to make, after all):

Will also look into joycon adapter.
