Shifter buttons

Im just wondering if anyone has ever mounted Buttons onto their shifter.

I was thinking when i get my Carputer fulling installed i would salvage an old gravis game pad and mount 2 of the buttons onto the Shifter, for Forward and Back Mostlikely. I Was also thinking of mounting buttons on the back of the steering wheel (similar to Jeep Libertys).

Any Comments/Suggestions?

there has been someone who has mounted a joystick in place of his shifter among other things

instead of salvaging an old game pad, just wire up a serial circuit and use a winamp plugin, there's a thread about the serial circuit lying around here somewhere
